The Apothecary Chronicles wrapped up Season 2 of the animated series in July 2025, spanning two seasons. It also hinted at a follow-up, though specifics remain undisclosed. So far, the anime has brought to life four volumes from the original light novel, but there’s still plenty more to unfold. The most recent storyline concluded on a melancholic note as the Shi Clan met its end at Jinshi and his royal forces. Having acknowledged his true identity as Ka Zuigetsu, Jinshi now intends to carry out his duties as the Imperial Brother rather than masquerading as an Eunuch. Meanwhile, Maomao returns to the Verdigris House to practice apothecary work, while Luomen remains at the Imperial Palace, serving as a royal physician.
After the Shi Clan’s uprising fell apart, the story underwent significant transformations. Remarkably, Loulan – the only legitimate heir of the Shi Clan – managed to make it through the chaos unscathed and adopted a new persona. With dreams of starting anew, she intends to voyage across the sea and create a fresh life for herself. Yet, there’s little hope that Maomao will ever learn about Loulan’s fate, despite a small possibility that she may still be alive somewhere. As Maomao reads Loulan’s letter, tears of sorrow stream down her face, understanding that their friendship has come to an end forever. While the anime sequel is still in production, the official website has begun work on the second phase of one of its most popular storylines.
The Four Seasons With Maomao and Jinshi Returns With a Second Part

2024 saw me kickstart an exciting project in July, filled with stunning visuals of my cherished characters throughout the year. Each month on the 22nd, we were treated to breathtaking scenes featuring plants from all four seasons. The journey ended in June 2025, with each month showcasing a unique theme flower that beautifully complemented the changing seasons. It was a delightful experience exploring new facets of these characters, particularly those residing in the Rear Palace – Jinshi, Xiaolan, Shisui (Loulan), Lihua, Gyokoyou, and even her daughter Lingli. So far, our focus has been solely on the residents of the Rear Palace.
The second phase of our project commenced on July 22nd, 2025, focusing on Maomao and Pairin who were unwinding in a gazebo following a warm bath at the Verdigris House. The stunning imagery captures a tranquil summer evening with bellflowers and fireflies as the backdrop. Moreover, it underscores Maomao’s deep connection with someone she has known since birth. Pairin is one of the three princesses of the Verdigris House and a prominent courtesan who, along with Joka and Meimei, cared for Maomao. To Maomao, Pairin is more than just a sister; she is almost like a mother figure.
Although these characters play significant roles in the narrative, they are frequently underestimated due to their limited screen time. The series tends to overlook these characters because it primarily revolves around the Verdigris House. With the return of the project for a second installment, it will exclusively center on the inhabitants of the Verdigris House and their interactions with Maomao.
