In the Winter and Spring of 2025, I found myself following the captivating tale of “The Apothecary Diaries” Season 2, which finally drew to a close. This season adapted from the third and fourth volumes of the light novels, predominantly delving into the intricate plots engineered by the Shi Clan, culminating in their ultimately unsuccessful rebellion. Amidst the turmoil, we witnessed substantial growth in the bond between Jinshi and Maoma. Jinshi became increasingly candid with his emotions, while Maomao began to uncover more about him. The narrative took a dramatic shift in Season 2, particularly with Jinshi, who has now renounced his disguise as an Eunuch and embraced his role as the Moon Prince. Despite his disinterest in the throne, Jinshi still bears the weight of his duties as the Imperial Brother and the former Crown Prince.
The uprising of the Shi Clan significantly advanced Jinshi’s realization of his true self. Besides quelling the rebellion, he must rescue Maomao, who was abducted by Suirei and held captive at the Shi Clan’s fortress. Although she had suspicions that Jinshi might be from the Imperial family, her assumptions were confirmed when he introduced himself as Ka Zuigetsu rather than Jinshi. However, while the end of the second season indicates a significant progression in their relationship, they have yet to formally become a couple.
Warning: This article contains spoilers from The Apothecary Diaries light novel!
Will Jinshi and Maomao Get Together After The Apothecary Diaries Season 2?
Following the unveiling of his real self, Jinshi has grown bolder towards Maomao. On separate instances, he attempts to cultivate intimacy with her, only to be halted each time. Post the Shi Clan’s uprising, Maomao retreats to the Verdigris House, where she takes on the role of an apothecary. Simultaneously, Jinshi attends to his court responsibilities rather than overseeing the Rear Palace. Regardless, he makes every effort to catch up with Maomao whenever possible. Although she appears perplexed, it is actually her feelings for him that are blossoming.
In her careful disposition and the risks associated with him being a part of the Imperial family, she finds herself resisting his affectionate gestures. Nonetheless, they are destined to be together in the light novel, but many obstacles lie ahead before they reach that point. Despite the physical separation, this pair will persist in collaborating and unraveling enigmatic incidents within the empire, as hinted by the sequel’s preview. Until the moment they openly express their feelings for one another, we can expect numerous instances of longing, particularly on Jinshi’s part.
