In the universe known as the Arrowverse, there’s no shortage of formidable adversaries. Characters like Oliver Queen must devise strategies to overcome villains such as Adrian Chase and Ricardo Diaz. Meanwhile, the Legends of Tomorrow engage in battles against groups like the Legion of Doom and a colossal demon. However, Barry Allen has an edge because his enemies don’t hold back, particularly in The Flash. The trouble for Barry begins with Reverse-Flash, who murdered his mother and deceived him into thinking he was Harrison Wells to return to the future. Furthermore, Barry must confront an evil version of himself, who transforms into the malevolent speed god Savitar and attempts to kill Iris.
Among all the formidable foes The Flash has faced, none has been as chilling for me as Zoom, the malevolent speedster. This menacing character is ruthless, willing to eliminate anyone who dares to hinder his path to power and enhancement. In Season 2, he locks his sights on Barry, even resorting to a tactic reminiscent of a Batman villain, making our Scarlet Speedster’s life even more perilous.
Zoom Doesn’t Let The Flash Walk Away Unscathed

Shortly following Eddie Thawne’s selfless act to eliminate his relative Eobard Thawne from the timeline, another speedster mysteriously emerges in Central City. Initially, it’s unclear why he’s here, but Jay Garrick swiftly joins forces with Team Flash after Zoom’s arrival. He discloses that this speedster intends to seize The Flash’s speed. With Jay’s guidance, the heroes design a trap to apprehend Zoom, employing Linda Park as an undercover operative posing as Dr. Light from Earth-2, who is supposedly Zoom’s ally. However, it turns out that Jay and Zoom are one in the same, making Team Flash the unwitting victims of a clever ruse.
In this rephrased version: Zoom, seeing through Linda’s deception, hurls her off a building, leaving it to The Flash to save her. Enraged, the hero pursues Zoom, yet fails to inflict any harm. Zoom anticipates every move by The Flash and, growing tired of playing games, delivers a powerful strike that shatters The Flash’s back. He then picks up the injured hero and drags him to the police station and newspaper to boast about his triumph. All Barry can do is watch as his adversary endangers everyone he cares about. This predicament bears some resemblance to Batman’s when he faces Bane, another villain who targets spines for injury.
Bane Shows Batman What Real Power Is During Their Fight

Although not originally hailing from Gotham City, Bane establishes himself within this legendary DC locale in order to gather information about Batman. In the narrative arc known as “Knightfall”, one of his initial actions is to free all the criminals confined in Arkham Asylum, thereby forcing the Dark Knight to address the ensuing chaos. After exerting all his strength to subdue these villains, Batman retires to recuperate, only to find Bane lying in wait for him upon his return. In this confrontation, Bane overpowers the exhausted hero and fractures his spine by snapping him over his knee. The prolonged healing process that follows provides Bane with an opportunity to seize control of Gotham and establish a criminal empire.
In Christopher Nolan’s film The Dark Knight Rises, the storyline follows a pattern similar to previous versions. Unlike other adaptations, Bruce Wayne, in this live-action portrayal, doesn’t hand over the mantle of Batman. Instead, he regains his strength within the prison where Bane was raised. Aided by a fellow inmate, Bruce manages an escape and returns to Gotham City, ready to face off against Bane. After vanquishing the antagonist, Batman prevents a looming nuclear catastrophe, thereby ensuring the city’s safety. This heroic act allows him to pass on his responsibilities to John Blake and bid farewell to his life as a crime-fighter.
In a different scenario, it’s likely that Barry ponders discarding his boots in frustration following his defeat at the hands of Zoom on The Flash. However, he presses on, saving the multiverse from destruction. Eventually, Time Wraiths intervene, transforming Zoom into Black Flash, an enforcer for the Speed Force. This ending is somber for Zoom, but it’s challenging to empathize with him after the havoc he wreaked on Barry and his companions.
The Flash is streaming on Netflix.
