The news that Scarlett Johansson will be in “The Batman 2” has sparked a lot of debate about her role. Fans have proposed several possibilities, including Andrea Beaumont (also known as Phantasm), Vicki Vale, and Poison Ivy.
According to a well-informed source, the Marvel actor might actually be playing a character linked to Harvey Dent, who is expected to appear in the movie, rather than any of the previously speculated roles.
Jeff Sneider says Scarlett Johansson’s role is related to Harvey Dent in The Batman 2
On the recent episode of John Rocha’s podcast, The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider revealed that casting agents have been talking about three potential new roles for the upcoming Batman 2 movie for the past few weeks, according to a source at a casting agency.
According to Sneider, the characters in the film will be Harvey Dent, his wife Gilda Gold, and his father. Other sources have mentioned that two actors, one in his 40s and one in his 60s, are being considered for the roles of Dent and his father. Sneider also reported that Scarlett Johansson will play Gilda Gold.
As of now, the filmmakers haven’t officially announced whether Johansson will play Gold.
Gilda Gold first appeared in Detective Comics #66 in August 1942. She’s often a key character in stories about Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, frequently portrayed as his fiancée. However, their romance is shattered when Dent is scarred by gangster Sal Maroni during a trial, leading to his transformation into Two-Face.
Gilda is an important character in the Batman limited series The Long Halloween, which features art by Tim Sale and writing by Jeph Loeb. The story shows her marriage to Harvey Dent falling apart as he becomes consumed with taking down the organized crime in Gotham City. Simultaneously, a serial killer known as Holiday begins targeting the leaders of Gotham’s criminal underworld.
Gilda eventually confesses she was the original Holiday killer, explaining she wanted to ease Harvey Dent’s burden by taking on the murders herself – up until New Year’s Eve. She claims Dent then took over as Holiday and continued the killings. However, this truth is only revealed to the reader, as Alberto Falcone has already confessed to being Holiday to everyone else.
