A new rumor regarding The Batman 3 is good news for Robert Pattinson fans, but bad news for the DCU.
I was really blown away by Robert Pattinson as Batman in The Batman – that movie, which came out in 2022, was fantastic. Matt Reeves did an amazing job directing it, and it’s been so cool to see the world expand with the Penguin spin-off series starring Colin Farrell. Now, I’m already excited because a sequel is coming to theaters next year!
The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, takes place in a separate world – known as The Batman Epic Crime Saga – and isn’t connected to the new DC Universe (DCU) being created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, which launched in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. Gunn has confirmed Pattinson won’t be portraying Batman in the DCU. While it’s uncertain when Batman will appear in the DCU, a film called The Brave and the Bold, featuring Batman and Robin/Damian Wayne, is currently in the works.
What is The Batman 3 update?
As a huge Batman fan, I’m hearing some interesting news from scooper Daniel Richtman (via The Direct). Apparently, if you’re really hyped for The Brave and the Bold – the one introducing the Bat-Family – you might be waiting a while. But, if you’re like me and loved The Batman with Robert Pattinson and are hoping to see that story continue, there’s a good chance we’ll get more of that! It sounds like that continuation is further along in development.
According to Richtman, ‘Brave and the Bold’ is likely several years away. James Gunn is prioritizing getting ‘The Batman 3’ made quickly, aiming to complete the planned trilogy and then focus on other projects. He apparently doesn’t want two different Batman franchises running concurrently.
This information is currently unconfirmed, so it’s best not to assume it’s definitely happening. There are no set release dates for either The Batman 3 or The Brave and the Bold, so we don’t know which movie will be made first.
Whether or not we get a third Batman movie depends on how well the sequel, The Batman: Part II, does at the box office. While a flop seems improbable, it’s been five and a half years since the first film, and it’s uncertain if audiences will still be interested in this version of Batman.
The Batman: Part II arrives on October 1, 2027.
