Okay, so the Baywatch reboot at Fox is really gaining momentum! This project has been floating around for years, finally getting the green light last autumn, and they just announced open casting calls. But the biggest news dropped on Friday: they’ve found their lead actor! And get this – it’s someone we already know and love from the Arrowverse, trading in their superhero suit for… well, a Speedo! It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out, and I’m definitely intrigued.
Stephen Amell, known for his role in Arrow, will star in the upcoming Baywatch reboot, as reported by Variety. Production is scheduled to begin this spring, and the series is expected to air during the 2026-2027 television season. Amell will play Hobie Buchannon, a grown-up version of the popular character from the original series, now working as a Baywatch Captain following in his father’s footsteps. The story will focus on Hobie’s life being changed when his long-lost daughter, Charlie, arrives wanting to join him as a Baywatch lifeguard and continue the family tradition.
I’m so excited to hear Robbie Amell is joining the Baywatch reboot! It’s great to see him landing another TV role so quickly after Suits LA got cancelled – that was a shame, it only lasted one season. He’s been fantastic in everything he’s done, from Arrow where he played Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, to Heels on Starz. Can’t wait to see what he does with this new part!
What Can We Expect From The New Baywatch?

Fox is preparing a new take on the classic series Baywatch. The original Baywatch first aired in 1989, starring David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, and followed the lives of lifeguards working in Los Angeles and Hawaii. Though initially cancelled by NBC after its first season, the show became incredibly popular in reruns, eventually running for 11 seasons and becoming a global hit. In 1999, the series was revamped as Baywatch: Hawaii with a new location and cast. It also spawned a two-season spinoff called Baywatch Nights, and a movie reboot in 2017 featuring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
The new Baywatch series on Fox isn’t a complete reboot; it’s more of a continuation of the original. Like the original, it will follow the lives and relationships of lifeguards, both at work and in their personal lives. However, with new casting, the show will also introduce a new generation of characters, offering a fresh take on the story. This approach should satisfy longtime fans while also attracting a new audience. One key question is how the series will handle the original’s focus on sexuality, which was a defining characteristic. Given changing social norms, it will be interesting to see how the new Baywatch approaches this aspect, and whether it can capture the same level of drama and excitement as the original.
