The Beach Boys Cofounder Brian Wilson’s Cause of Death Revealed

As a lifestyle expert, I’m sad to share that the cause behind the passing of Brian Wilson, one of the founding members of The Beach Boys, has officially been determined, approximately two weeks following his peaceful departure at the age of 82 on June 11th.

A death certificate obtained by TMZ from the city of Los Angeles reveals that Wilson passed away due to natural causes following a respiratory failure. Carda Health, a pulmonary rehabilitation clinic, explains that respiratory failure is the most severe type of breathing issue as it occurs when the lungs cease functioning, preventing a person from receiving essential oxygen.

In addition to determining the immediate cause of death, coroners identified several pre-existing health conditions that likely played a role. These included sepsis (a severe response to infection), cystitis (bladder inflammation), sleep apnea, advanced kidney disease, chronic respiratory failure, and a neurodegenerative disorder. This Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s death was found to be influenced by these various health complications.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Brian, father of Carnie and Wendy who are members of the band Wilson Phillips, had passed away.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news: our cherished father, Brian Wilson, has sadly passed away. We find ourselves speechless in this moment. At present, we ask for privacy as we, his family, mourn. We understand that our sorrow is being shared globally. Our hearts are filled with love and mercy.

In their own statement recognizing his passing, Wilson’s ex-bandmates from The Beach Boys, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, expressed sorrow over the loss of a “genius.

The Beach Boys expressed their sorrow on Instagram over the demise of their relative, confidant, and musical companion, Brian Wilson. Beyond being the heart of The Beach Boys, Wilson embodied the soul of our melodious journey. The harmonies he imagined and the feelings he infused into each note have indelibly altered the trajectory of music.

The statement went on to say, “Brian’s extraordinary skill and one-of-a-kind essence crafted soundtracks for countless lives worldwide, ours included. In unison, we shared with the world a quintessentially American ideal – hope, happiness, and liberation – through music that brought joy, encouraged belief in sunny days and limitless opportunities.

As a lifestyle expert, I find it deeply sad to share that my health had significantly deteriorated for the past few years. In light of my diagnosis with a severe form of cognitive disorder, like dementia in 2024, my loved ones felt compelled to establish a conservatorship to ensure proper care and guidance for me during these challenging times.

After Brian’s wife, Melinda Ledbetter (also known as Melinda), sadly passed away, it was decided by Brian, his seven children, their housekeeper Gloria Ramos, and Brian’s doctors (in accordance with the family’s established processes) that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers would jointly serve as co-conservators for Brian, taking care of his personal matters. This was confirmed by the family at the time.

Brian founded the initial version of The Beach Boys band alongside his brothers Carl and Dennis Wilson, cousin Love, and high school friend Al Jardine in Hawthorne, California back in 1961. Due to mental health concerns, Brian stopped touring with the group during the mid-1960s but came back as a touring member and primary songwriter for The Beach Boys in the 1970s. In 2012, he was regularly performing with Love and Jardine once more, for The Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary tour. Sadly, his brothers Dennis and Carl passed away in 1983 and 1998 respectively.

After him, Brian leaves behind his daughters Wendy and Carnie, along with his five adopted kids – Dakota, Daria, Delanie, Dylan, and Dash. Sadly, his second spouse, Melinda, passed away in January of 2024.
