The Bear wrapped up season 4 on a very emotional note — but was it secretly a series finale?
On Wednesday, June 25th, Hulu made available fresh episodes featuring Jeremy Allen White’s character, Carmy, striving to improve after a negative review jeopardized the restaurant’s future. Throughout the episodes, there were hints that bigger things were being planned for The Bear.
The audience, along with Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Natalie (Abby Elliot), only found out during the final scene that Carmy was preparing the restaurant for his departure. To clarify, after discovering he no longer felt passion for the job, Carmy began orchestrating a transition plan, with Sydney stepping up to take over in his stead.
In contrast, Sydney wasn’t pleased when they learned the news, leading to an emotional dispute at The Bear’s location. Richie then became involved and strongly objected to Carmy’s choice to depart. Matters escalated further when Carmy mentioned their late brother, Mikey (portrayed by Jon Bernthal), causing the group to confront their lingering grief.
Although Sydney initially disliked the idea of working alone, she consented, stipulating that Richie should take over Carmy’s position as her partner instead. Later, Natalie came across this new trio and discovered that Carmy was stepping away from their joint family venture.
In a new setting, it grew dark outside and Natalie began to weep as the story shifted to The Bear at night. The restaurant was now closed, the clock that Cicero (Oliver Platt) provided to signify the two months they had left to save The Bear had run out.
It’s undecided if season 4 will be the final one for the show. The main actors haven’t talked much about it prior to the release of new episodes, yet whispers suggest that The Bear might be wrapping up its run.

Carmy

Season 4 suggested a possible resolution as Carmy’s growth became more evident. He rekindled his connection with Claire (Molly Gordon), indicating a potential revival of their relationship in the coming days. Carmy welcomed his mother back into his life, consistently attended Al-Anon meetings, and was contemplating adjustments to enhance his mental well-being.
As a lifestyle aficionado, let me share an intriguing observation from my recent viewing experience of “The Bear”. In this engaging series, the character Carmy kept his plans to depart The Bear under wraps until the very end. The climactic episode, masterfully shot in a single take, showcased Carmy bidding farewell to Sydney and Richie, his partners in crafting the restaurant we all grew fond of together. The future for Carmy and the restaurant remained uncertain; will he embark on a new adventure or can The Bear continue without him? Only time will tell!
Richie

This season, Richie found his footing at The Bear after previously feeling uncertain about his role. He excelled in his duties and advanced professionally. Despite facing difficulties in his personal life, he managed to maintain a positive relationship with his ex-wife, even attending her wedding. The show also brought Josh Hartnett back into the picture for a brief time.
It wasn’t clear if Richie would pursue a relationship with the employee from Ever, now working at The Bear, though it appeared that possibility could arise in the future. However, Richie’s last scene showed him learning that he would become a partner at The Bear, along with Natalie and Sydney.
Syd

In the course of ten episodes, we saw The Bear struggling as Sydney endeavored — and ultimately fell short — in revealing her secondary job offer to Carmy. Despite her doubts about her future with The Bear, she chose to decline the offer. Later on, Sydney experienced a personal alarm when her father had a heart attack. Through discussions with various individuals, including Donna (Jamie Lee Curtis)), Sydney ultimately made the decision to remain at The Bear.
Horrible argument with Carmy aside, Sydney was getting ready to take over by the end of the finale.
Marcus

The pastry chef kept crafting magnificent desserts in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Marcus contemplated reconciling with his father after selling their family home. However, he ultimately decided to pursue this reunion on his own terms. By the conclusion of the season, Marcus had become a part of Food and Wine’s distinguished group of extraordinary chefs.
Tina

In Season 4, Tina honed her culinary talents under the guidance of her workmates. The last scene depicted her successfully preparing a dish she had been striving to make in an impressive amount of time.
Natalie

Throughout much of the series, Natalie navigated her new role as a mother following the birth of her daughter with husband Pete. At the same time, she struggled to keep The Bear running smoothly. A notable event was when Brie Larson appeared in a cameo, helping to resolve the long-standing feud between Natalie and Francie Fak. Although the cause of their falling out remained undefined, they managed to patch things up and move forward as friends once more.
In the final scene, Natalie gave Carmy a warm embrace outside of The Bear, as she accepted his decision to step away from the family business.
