The Beatles are arguably the most famous band ever, and one of the actors in the new series of movies about them had to do some research before filming started.
Sam Mendes is planning a major film project about The Beatles, where each member of the band will be the focus of their own individual movie.
Everyone knows the names Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, but it’s surprising to learn that Ringo’s first on-screen wife wasn’t very familiar with The Beatles.
Mia McKenna-Bruce, who will be playing Maureen Starkey in the upcoming film, recently told Tatler that she wasn’t familiar with The Beatles before starting work on the project.

While filming ‘Seven Dials’ with Martin Freeman, Agatha Christie quizzed me on the Beatles, and I couldn’t name them all, she said. She also admitted she didn’t know what band Mick Jagger played in.
She admitted she didn’t know much about The Beatles, remembering only singing “Eleanor Rigby” and “Yellow Submarine” in school, but said it wasn’t music she particularly enjoyed.
Okay, so initially, I was a little concerned that Maisie McKenna-Bruce didn’t seem super familiar with The Beatles, but thankfully, it looks like my concern – and more importantly, Morgan Freeman’s gentle frustration – really motivated her to brush up on her Beatles history. She definitely did the research, and it shows!
I recently realized The Beatles are actually amazing! I’m really enjoying their music – it’s the kind of thing I’d happily listen to while commuting.

Barry Keoghan will portray Ringo Starr in the upcoming films, and McKenna-Bruce will play his wife, Maureen Starkey, with whom he shared ten years of marriage and three children.
Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Saoirse Ronan, James Norton, Aimee Lou Wood, Anna Sawai, and other well-known actors will also star alongside the two leads.
Production started in November 2025, and it will be a lengthy process before all four movies are released on April 7, 2028. This gives actress McKenna-Bruce ample time to learn everything she needs to know about The Beatles.
