Apple TV+’s popular spy series “Slow Horses,” starring Gary Oldman, has been given an unexpected extension for a seventh season on the streaming platform, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s recent announcement. This decision comes following the renewal of the show for a sixth season in October and the completion of production for Season 5. Although viewers still have to wait for Season 5, Apple TV+ is eager to continue the drama, as indicated by Jay Hunt, Creative Director for Europe at Apple TV+, who expresses enthusiasm about the series’ return.
In a statement, Jay Hunt expressed excitement that “Slow Horses” has captivated audiences globally with its blend of witty British humor and pulse-pounding action. She’s thrilled that viewers will get another season to appreciate Gary’s exceptional portrayal of Jackson Lamb alongside the bumbling spy antics of Slow Horses.
The popular, award-winning spy drama is adapted from Mick Herron’s Slough House book collection, which comprises nine novels: Slow Horses, Dead Lions, Real Tigers, Spook Street, London Rules, Joe Country, another titled Slough House, Bad Actors, and Clown Town. In addition to these novels, Herron has also published several novellas set within the Slough House universe, such as The List, The Marylebone Drop, The Catch, and Standing by the Wall. The upcoming seventh season of Slow Horses will focus on the plot from the novel Bad Actors. As it returns for a seventh season, Slow Horses remains Apple TV+’s longest-running scripted series in terms of seasons, not episode count.
The television series, featuring Gary Oldman portraying Jackson Lamb, primarily revolves around an unconventional branch of the British MI5 intelligence agency. Over its initial four seasons, it has consistently garnered high praise on Rotten Tomatoes, with each season achieving exceptional ratings: Season 1 boasted a 95% rating, followed by Season 2’s remarkable 100%, Season 3 with a near-perfect 98%, and ultimately, Season 4 receiving a perfect 100%. This extraordinary achievement is rarely seen in dramas even during a single season. Additionally, the show’s third season was honored with a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series.
The series “Slow Horses” additionally features actors Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Rosalind Eleazar, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, and Saskia Reeves. It is produced by See-Saw Films, with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Dan Hassid, Mick Herron, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski, and Oldman serving as executive producers. For the seventh season of “Slow Horses,” Robert McKillop, known for his work on “Ludwig” and “Guilt,” will direct, while Ben Vanstone will serve as an executive producer. Similar to previous seasons, Season 7 of “Slow Horses” will comprise six episodes.
The initial four instalments of “Slow Horses” can only be viewed on Apple TV+. On September 24th, the fifth season will premiere there. At present, no details have been released about when Seasons 6 and 7 will air or start production on Apple TV+. If you’re craving more spy thrills in the meantime, the entire “Slough House” series, including all nine books and novellas, is now available for purchase wherever books are sold.
