The Best Dragon Ball Parody Series is Back (But There’s a Catch)

Dragon Ball Z: Abridged is easily the most famous Dragon Ball parody online, originally starting in 2008. The series concluded after Team Four Star finished the Cell Saga, including a particularly memorable voice performance for Gohan’s big moment. Although they didn’t create a full parody of the Buu Saga for their own channel, they did contribute a special piece to another YouTuber covering that storyline. Now, with their take on Dragon Ball Daima, Team Four Star shows they still have a knack for putting a fun, new spin on the franchise.

Totally Not Mark is a popular YouTuber known for creating content about the Dragon Ball universe. His latest project is a reimagining of the new series, Dragon Ball Daima, which he and Team Four Star have retitled Dragon Ball Magic. They’ve put a unique spin on the story, and while it may not be quite as hilarious as their famous Dragon Ball Z Abridged series, it features Team Four Star reprising some of their classic roles and voicing new characters. Totally Not Mark describes the effort, and you can watch the video above.

I absolutely loved Dragon Ball Daima! It had so much heart and the characters were just fantastic, but it felt like it didn’t quite reach the audience it deserved. Honestly, I think the writer, Yuko Kakihara, was set up for a really tough challenge. Today, we decided to do something about that, and I’m so excited to share what we’ve created! We had some unbelievably talented artists and sound designers help us, and a huge thanks to our friends at Team Four Star for making this all possible!

Dragon Ball Daima’s Future

It’s currently unclear what’s next for the Dragon Ball anime, but we’ll find out more early next year. Instead of appearing at this year’s Jump Festa – a big event for popular anime – the Dragon Ball team is hosting a special event called “Dragon Ball Genki Dama Matsuri” in January. This festival will reveal plans for the future of the Dragon Ball franchise, including both the anime and video games.

Toei Animation hasn’t announced if Dragon Ball Daima will get a second season, but the first season’s ending suggests it’s possible. The first season focused on Goku and his friends battling the demon lord Gomah, who became much stronger after obtaining the “Evil Eye.” The final scene revealed a vast number of these “Evil Eyes” hidden within the Demon Realm, hinting at future challenges for the Z-Fighters.
