It’s well-known that DreamWorks Animation has made a significant impact in the animation world, starting with its debut feature film, “Antz,” in 1998. Over the years, the studio has been at the forefront of animation and created over 50 iconic movies that have entertained audiences of all ages. Some of their most popular franchises include “Shrek,” “Kung Fu Panda,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” and “Madagascar.”
As fans eagerly anticipate the release of DreamWorks’ next big project, “Shrek 5” in 2027, they now have the opportunity to stream one of the studio’s best sequels on Peacock after it found a new home there.
The animated film titled “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” which is the latest addition and the sixth installment in the popular Shrek series, began streaming on Peacock on September 10th. Now, you can find this movie, along with most of the other Shrek films, on the NBCUniversal streamer. Directed by Joel Crawford, in “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” our beloved cat character grapples with the idea of morality. Upon discovering that he has used up eight of his nine lives, Puss in Boots forms an alliance with Kitty and Perrito to embark on a quest to locate the Last Wish from a fallen star’s wishing star, hoping to regain his nine lives and resume his thrilling escapades.
Why You Should Watch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
The film titled “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” serves as a delightful progression within the Shrek series, focusing on the adventures of the title character. Unlike its predecessors, it deviates from the animation style of the Shrek movies, instead adopting a unique approach inspired by storybooks and painting. The animation is equally captivating and visually impressive.
The film maintains the essential humor and essence of the Shrek series through slapstick comedy and rapid-fire jokes suitable for all ages. It features endearing and lovable characters, a healthy dose of laughter and action, and a creative and captivating narrative that shines among the franchise. Overall, “The Last Wish” offers an entertaining experience for audiences of all ages.
In 2022, the film “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” kept the winning streak of the “Shrek” series going, garnering success not just at the box office but also among critics. It ranked as the tenth-highest-grossing movie of the year, pulling in a total of $484 million globally. Within the larger franchise, it became the fifth highest-grossing movie. Moreover, it was well-received by both professional critics and viewers, scoring “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot” ratings on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% approval rating from critics and a 94% positive response from audiences. This makes it the highest-rated film in the entire “Shrek” franchise according to these metrics.
Where to Stream the Rest of the Shrek Franchise
With the debut of “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” on Peacock, enthusiasts can now watch the entire “Shrek” series. However, to access all films, two streaming subscriptions are required as some parts of the franchise are also available on Netflix. As of September 1st, “Shrek” (2001), “Shrek 2” (2004), “Shrek the Third” (2007), and “Puss in Boots” (2011) can be found on Peacock. Unfortunately, only one movie is missing from NBCUniversal’s streamer library – “Shrek Forever After” (2010). This film began streaming on Netflix on September 1st alongside the three original Shrek movies and “Puss in Boots.
As a film enthusiast, I find myself in a delightful dilemma: Whether to stick with Netflix or switch to Peacock for streaming the first three ‘Puss in Boots’ movies and the original ‘Shrek’ trilogy. However, for the fourth ‘Shrek’ movie, I’ll need to head over to Netflix, while the latest installment of the franchise can only be found on Peacock. Interestingly, all six films are also up for rental or purchase online, giving us flexibility in our viewing choices.
