It’s frustrating when TV shows don’t get to finish their stories, and there are many reasons why this happens. Low viewership, problems during production, or simply a decline in quality can all lead to cancellation. One fantasy series, in particular, faced controversy and ended prematurely. Luckily, its strongest season is currently available to stream for free, but the other two seasons have disappeared completely.
Neil Gaiman’s American Gods first appeared as a book and was then made into a TV series on Starz in 2017. The first season was the most popular and highly rated of the show’s three seasons, and it’s currently available to watch for free on Tubi. While you might think all seasons are on Tubi, that’s not quite right.

You can currently watch season 1 on Tubi, but seasons 2 and 3 aren’t available there yet. It’s unclear if they’ll be added later, but at least you can enjoy the first season – the one that began what many hoped would become a long-running TV series – without needing a subscription or paying anything.
The TV adaptation of American Gods started strong, earning high praise from both critics and viewers. The first season received a 92% approval rating from critics and an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the second season saw a decline in popularity, with critic and audience scores dropping to 61% and 63% respectively.
Season 3 saw a slight drop in viewership, but critics responded more positively, giving it a 75% rating. Viewers remained consistent with a score of 63%. Despite this, the series was cancelled after three seasons, following changes in both the cast and crew. Although there was discussion of a potential TV movie to wrap things up, it never happened.
Starz announced the show’s cancellation and shared (according to Deadline) that they are thankful for the talented cast and crew, as well as their partners at Fremantle, who helped bring Neil Gaiman’s important and timely story to the screen.
You can now continue watching the show on Tubi without needing a subscription, and we expect seasons 2 and 3 to be available there eventually.
