Okay, so I just read some exciting news! DC Studios and HBO Max are developing a new series called DC Crime, and the concept is really clever. Apparently, it’s going to be presented as if it’s a real true crime documentary… but set within the DC Universe! Even cooler? Skyler Gisondo, who plays Jimmy Olsen, will be the host! The team behind American Vandal – Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault – are running the show, which already promises a unique vibe. And get this – they’ve already announced the villain for the first season! I’m seriously intrigued to see how this all plays out.
Jimmy Olsen Gets a DCU TV Series With Major Villains Confirmed to Appear
Fans who enjoyed Michael Giisondo’s portrayal of Jimmy Olsen in the Superman movie will be thrilled to hear about a new TV series centered around the character. Giisondo brought a lot of humor to the role and presented a version of the classic DC Comics character that even longtime fans appreciated. The show, created by the team behind American Vandal, will blend this take on Jimmy Olsen with the witty, true-crime parody style that made their previous show a hit, and it looks like it’s coming together quickly, which is great news!
The best part of the new series is that the first season will center around The Flash villain, Gorilla Grodd. The show, which is a comedic take on DC Comics events presented as a true crime story, will likely explore Grodd’s backstory over several episodes before focusing on his crimes and potentially even the city where gorillas live.
Introducing Gorilla Grodd in this way raises an important question for the show. With an unknown number of episodes, focusing on a DC villain through a true crime format without acknowledging the hero he usually fights feels like a mistake. It seems impossible to tell Gorilla Grodd’s story without mentioning The Flash, and this could actually give DC Studios a direction for how to handle the character moving forward.
As a huge DC fan, I’m still waiting to hear anything official about what the new DCU is planning for The Flash. It’s a given they’ll need a new actor, regardless of everything with Ezra Miller, but what really has me wondering is who they’ll even cast as the Flash! Will it still be Barry Allen, or are James Gunn and company thinking of going with Wally West or Jay Garrick? Either way, they can’t delay a decision for too long, especially with that TV series coming up – they’re going to have to address The Flash one way or another!
