As the weather cools and the days get shorter, fall is an excellent time to watch thrilling TV shows. Netflix offers many options, but one series stands out – it’s a critically acclaimed show from the last ten years, and a new season is now available, making it the perfect time to start watching.
All three seasons of the AMC thriller Dark Winds are now available to stream on Netflix, with the latest, Season 3, added today. It’s a great time to start watching or catch up before Season 4 airs on AMC.
What is Dark Winds About?
I’m completely captivated by Dark Winds! It’s a really gripping psychological thriller set in the 1970s American Southwest, specifically the Four Corners area, and it’s based on the fantastic Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman. We follow Navajo Tribal Police officers Joe Leaphorn, Bernadette Manuelito, and Jim Chee as they investigate cases, and the cast – starring Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, and Jessica Matten – is incredible. What’s even more special is that George R.R. Martin (of Game of Thrones fame) and the legendary Robert Redford were executive producers. In fact, Redford made a cameo in Season 3, which sadly turned out to be his last ever acting role, and he’s still credited as an executive producer for the upcoming fourth season. It’s a truly special show!
Despite not getting enough attention, Dark Winds is one of the best shows of recent years. It has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes across all three seasons, which is remarkable. What makes the show so compelling is its rich storytelling. It’s more than just a Western crime thriller; it explores the complex relationships between Native American tribes and mainstream society. By telling these stories through the eyes of tribal law enforcement, the show offers a deep and thoughtful look at Native American culture, brought to life by well-developed characters and a compelling narrative. It’s a show you shouldn’t miss.
Season 4 of Dark Winds is On the Way (And Sooner Than You Think)
With Season 3 of Dark Winds now available on Netflix, fans are gearing up for even more of the popular show. AMC recently announced that Season 4 will premiere on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The new season will center around the search for a missing Navajo girl, sending detectives Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito to 1970s Los Angeles. They’ll be in a desperate fight against time to rescue her from a dangerous killer with ties to organized crime.
