Superhero franchises thrive on strong team dynamics. The Avengers were the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, successfully handling every challenge. Since their disbandment, the franchise has struggled. The DC Extended Universe faces a similar problem, but unlike the Avengers, the Justice League never really had a period of success. Luckily, The Boys avoids this issue. Its main team, The Seven, is constantly active, ensuring the stability of the corporation that controls them, Vought, which relies on everything running smoothly.
Vought, being the sole provider of superheroes globally, hasn’t usually had to worry much about the specific individuals on The Seven. As long as a hero could generate social media buzz, they were considered good enough. However, that approach is about to cause problems for The Seven, as it’s now being acknowledged that the team’s overall strength has significantly declined.
There Is a Power Vacuum in The Boys Franchise

The major surprise in the second season of Gen V is that the villain, Cipher, isn’t a single person – he’s being manipulated by Thomas Godolkin. Godolkin uses Marie Moreau to heal him, planning to reveal himself once he’s ready. For years, he’s secretly observed and analyzed the population of Supes, concluding that most of Vought’s creations aren’t strong enough. He intends to eliminate the weaker Supes and let only the most powerful survive. However, power isn’t his only concern; he also wants to control Homelander, believing Homelander is too unstable and damaging to The Seven.
Look, Godolkin is clearly unhinged, but you kind of see his point. Remember when The Seven was the elite team, with Supes like Queen Maeve and Black Noir? Well, Homelander has systematically pushed them all out – Starlight, A-Train, everyone. And the replacements? Let’s just say they’re… underwhelming. We’ve got a watered-down Black Noir and newcomers like Firecracker and Sage who just don’t measure up. Honestly, Homelander is carrying the whole team now, and it’s made even worse by the fact that a couple of his former teammates are actively working against him, even helping to train a new group of Supes that are shaping up to be way more powerful than The Seven as it currently stands.
The Guardians of Godolkin Have a Leg Up on The Seven

I was absolutely floored when I learned about Homelander’s origins! He was not happy to hear Godolkin was coming back, and honestly, I can’t blame him. It turns out Homelander is actually a product of Godolkin’s Project Odessa – a program designed to create the ultimate Supes. And there’s another one! Marie is the only other survivor of the project, and Godolkin has made her incredibly powerful – everyone thinks she’s Homelander’s equal. I have a feeling a confrontation is inevitable, though Homelander’s experience might not save him. It’s unlikely to be a simple one-on-one fight, and that worries me!
At the end of Gen V‘s second season, Marie decides to join Starlight’s fight against the powerful corporation Vought, alongside her friends. She’s teaming up with strong and capable heroes like Jordan Li and Sam Riordan, not weaker ones. Cate Dunlap also proves to be a formidable opponent, catching the attention of Homelander, who tasks her with tracking down members of The Boys. Homelander is starting to lose control, and this weakness will likely have serious consequences for The Seven when a new threat emerges in Season 5 of The Boys – whether it’s the Guardians of the Godolkin or someone else entirely.
