Prime Video is heavily invested in *The Boys* universe. While many streaming shows are cancelled after just one or two seasons, *The Boys* is coming back for a fifth and final season. Everyone will be watching Homelander, the show’s main villain, who just keeps getting more powerful despite being truly awful. His actions are so significant that they’re constantly referenced in the spin-off series, *Gen V*. But *Gen V* isn’t the only show highlighting Homelander’s influence – another series on Prime Video gives him even more attention.
Before Gen V started streaming, The Boys Presents: Diabolical was released. This series featured self-contained stories within the same universe as The Boys, and most of them included appearances by Homelander. Critics loved Diabolical, highlighting its funny and distinctive animation style. However, despite the positive reviews, it didn’t attract a large enough audience, and it hasn’t been renewed for three years.
In a recent interview with *The Wrap*, Saul Goodman creator Peter Kripke suggested that *Diabolical* likely won’t be returning for a second season, implying the show is finished.
According to one source, a second season of *Diabolical* is unlikely. They explained that while the creators would love to continue the show – and showrunner Simon Racioppa is eager to do so – the initial viewer numbers weren’t high enough to warrant another season. They emphasized they did try to make it happen.
The Boys Franchise Isn’t Going Anywhere

Even though *The Boys* is nearing its end and the first spin-off show was cancelled, the franchise is actually expanding. *Gen V* is currently successful in its second season and is laying the groundwork for several more seasons of stories. Plus, two new spin-offs are in development: *Vought Rising*, which will be a prequel set in the 1950s focusing on Soldier Boy and Stormfront, and *The Boys: Mexico*.
While it’s uncertain if upcoming shows like *Gen V*, *Vought Rising*, or *The Boys: Mexico* will capture the same magic as *Diabolical*, the creators are working hard to maintain the quality of the franchise. It’s disappointing that we likely won’t see more animated content, but there are plenty of promising live-action stories to keep things going. Hopefully, if these shows continue to be successful, Prime Video might reconsider and give the animation another chance in the future.
