Heading into Season 5 of The Boys, there are a lot of unpredictable factors. To begin with, Homelander’s followers didn’t manage to capture all of the members of the team, meaning Starlight got away, and they never found Billy Butcher, who is facing a major change as his life nears its end. The leader of The Seven couldn’t even control his own team, with A-Train turning against Vought and helping Hughie Campbell and the others before disappearing. A-Train wasn’t the only Vought employee to question things, however, as another fast-tracked employee made a desperate move to ensure their own survival.
Ashley Barrett started her career doing basic assistant work – handling all the tasks that Vought’s executives avoided. Her hard work and willingness to help made her a good match for Homelander’s increasingly complex plans, and she readily assisted when it suited her. But when Ashley faced a dangerous situation, she acted impulsively, making a choice that would greatly affect what lay ahead for her.
The Boys Is Finally Starting to Reveal What’s Going on With Ashley

Before The Boys Season 4, Ashley cleverly maneuvered her way into the CEO position at Vought. However, the introduction of Sister Sage, the world’s most intelligent Supe, reduced Ashley’s role to more of a symbolic leader than someone with actual power, causing her to question her future with the company. Just as she was considering leaving, she discovered Homelander’s scheme to eliminate anyone at Vought who had compromising information – including herself. To avoid being destroyed, Ashley broke into Homelander’s apartment and injected herself with Compound V. The Boys didn’t reveal what powers Ashley gained, but she appeared to be in considerable pain when we last saw her.
It will take some time before The Boys reveals what happened to Ashley, but its spin-off, Gen V, is providing an update on her situation. In Season 2, Episode 5, Cipher receives a visit from his partner, Sister Sage, who congratulates her on becoming Vought’s new CEO. He notes that the corporate world isn’t really her, but she explains that someone needs to step in and fill Ashley’s position given her current circumstances. This quick exchange clarifies Ashley’s role in The Boys Season 5 and suggests which side she’ll probably be on.
Homelander Is Going to Get the Most out of Ashley

Ashley took Compound V hoping to escape Homelander’s anger, but she may have inadvertently created a situation even more terrible than death. If Sister Sage knows what happened to the previous person in her position, it means Vought still has her in custody. Now, the question is what Vought intends to do with her. It’s clear that The Boys didn’t give her powers just to let them go unused, so she’ll likely test her abilities eventually. However, she might be forced to do whatever Homelander demands, as it could be the only way to stay alive.
Things are already difficult with most of the main team either in jail or hiding, but now they face a new Super with possibly dangerous powers. Although they have Billy Butcher, who is capable of killing Victoria Neuman, he doesn’t have much time left and will only confront Homelander. Hughie and the others must therefore discover a different strategy to defeat Ashley and help her escape the situation she’s created for herself.
Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
