The Boys Finally Starts Delivering on the Promise of 1 Supe Being More Powerful Than Homelander

At the beginning of *The Boys*, Vought International completely dominates the superhero world, leaving The Seven unchallenged. This allows the members of the team to act recklessly and without consequence. However, not everyone accepts this status quo. Characters like Billy Butcher and Hughie Campbell, having suffered losses at the hands of Supes, are determined to get revenge and expose Vought’s corruption, particularly the seemingly invincible leader of The Seven, Homelander. The Boys go to extreme lengths to achieve this, but quickly discover a significant obstacle: Homelander appears to be unstoppable.

Honestly, Homelander is terrifying. He’s unbelievably strong and practically indestructible, but it’s the rage inside him that *really* scares me – it makes him totally unpredictable. It felt hopeless for The Boys, trying to fight someone like that. But now, I’m starting to feel a little hopeful! There’s another Supe out there, and they’re actually showing they might be able to beat Homelander, which is a game-changer.

Gen V Holds the Key to Destroying The Boys‘ Homelander

The first season of *Gen V*, the spin-off to *The Boys*, doesn’t feel as high-stakes as the original show – there’s no race for the presidency or exploding heads (mostly). What *Gen V* does well is introduce a new group of young superheroes. The students at Godolkin University all want to join The Seven, and some of them have what it takes. Jordan Li, for instance, has two different superpowers, making them a formidable opponent. But Jordan’s time in the spotlight is short-lived, as Marie Moreau arrives and quickly makes her presence known. Marie has the ability to control blood, which sounds unpleasant, but is surprisingly powerful.

In the second season, the new dean at Godolkin, Cipher, recognizes Marie’s incredible potential, even suggesting she could become stronger than Homelander. Initially skeptical, Marie starts to believe him after Cipher challenges her abilities in Episode 4. Her fight with Jordan demonstrates she can compete with even the most powerful supes by controlling their blood, not just her own. However, Marie needs a better mentor. While Cipher is only interested in using her, someone else close to her is willing to help and is also a key player in the fight against Homelander.

Starlight Can Get the Most Out of Marie & Help Her Beat Homelander

Marie doesn’t necessarily want to be a hero, but she might be forced into that role. In Season 2 of Gen V, she discovers she’s the last one left from a secret project called Odessa, and while she doesn’t fully understand what that means, it’s clear Vought was trying to create even stronger Supers. Starlight thinks this project is starting up again, and if Marie can stop it, it could significantly hinder Vought’s plans. However, doing the right thing could lead to more challenges for Marie, especially if Starlight learns about her connection to Odessa.

Without Marie’s help, The Boys are no match for Homelander. The only other person who’s ever hurt him, Soldier Boy, is currently out of commission. Homelander has access to his father’s secret chamber, making it difficult for Billy Butcher to create conflict between them. Even if Billy could, he’s not sure he’s strong enough to kill Homelander, especially given his declining health. The show is intentionally drawing parallels between Marie and Homelander, suggesting a confrontation is inevitable. Marie needs to be fully in control of her powers when they meet, because any mistake could be fatal for her or anyone else involved.

Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
