The Boys Just Confirmed Another Supe Who Could Beat Homelander in Season 5 (& They’re a Villain)

The biggest question heading into Season 5 of The Boys is: who will finally defeat Homelander? While it’s almost certain Homelander will fall—the series can’t end with him still in power—several characters are potential contenders. These include Billy Butcher, who’s been seeking revenge against him throughout the show, and even Homelander’s own son, Ryan. Although Black Noir is the one who defeats Homelander in the original comic books, it doesn’t look like the show will follow that same path, though anything is still possible.

Wow, after the way Season 2 of Gen V ended, I’m really starting to think we might see Marie Moreau go head-to-head with Homelander. They both lived through Vought’s Project Odessa, which means they’re surprisingly matched in terms of power. But the show also makes me think even more about Sister Sage. She could be a key player in finally taking Homelander down, even though she’s currently on his side. It’s a fascinating possibility!

Sister Sage Could Be A Key Part Of Beating Homelander In The Boys Season 5

Season 2 of Gen V reveals more about Sister Sage and hints at the next stage of her plans. We see she has a real connection with Thomas Godolkin, and the two are secretly working together, aiming to gain Homelander’s support. However, Godolkin eventually betrays Sage and pursues his own dangerous scheme to establish dominance at God U by eliminating those he deems weak. Although she didn’t anticipate his betrayal, Sage adapts by releasing Polarity to help defeat him.

This suggests Sister Sage might also oppose Homelander in Season 5 of The Boys. Her swift betrayal of Godolkin, even though she had feelings for him, proves she’ll do anything to protect herself and stay in control. She’s incredibly intelligent, and a key part of that is her ability to adjust to changing circumstances. Considering Homelander’s unpredictable and self-serving behavior, it’s likely he’ll eventually give her a reason to turn against him.

Ultimately, Sage and Homelander have different motivations. She’s motivated by proving her own intelligence, and her scheme to assist Homelander in taking over the country was largely a test of her abilities. Now that she’s accomplished that, her next challenge would be defeating him – simply to prove she can.

As a fan, I’ve always felt like Sage really understands how Vought and the Seven operate – maybe better than anyone. Because of that, if she decides to go up against Homelander, she could be a total game-changer. It seems like all she really wants is to be left alone to do her research and get the respect she deserves, so if opposing Homelander helps her achieve that peace, I think she absolutely would.

Just because Sister Sage has powers doesn’t automatically mean she’ll be the one to finally defeat Homelander. That likely role will go to someone with a deeper, more personal history with him, like Ryan or Butcher. Defeating Homelander and the Seven won’t be a solo effort, and while Sage could remain an enemy and make things harder, it would be really interesting to see her ultimately help bring them down.
