The Boys Might Have Guaranteed a Happy Ending for Its Most Doomed Character

Surviving Season 5 of *The Boys* will be incredibly difficult for everyone involved. As the show’s final season, all bets are off, and characters are likely to fall—and take others with them. Homelander is at the center of the chaos, effectively running the country thanks to the new president’s decision to give him authority over other Supes. Everyone is after Homelander, with various groups hoping to bring order back and seize power when he eventually falls.

Not everyone will make it through the upcoming conflict, but some characters have a better chance of survival than others. Kimiko and Starlight are the only members of The Boys with superpowers, giving them an advantage in fights. However, the events unfolding in Season 2 of *Gen V* suggest another hero might also have a strong chance of surviving the final battle, provided they’re willing to be reasonable – something they don’t always do well.

Marie Moreau Is Changing the Landscape of the Fight Against Homelander

Though *Gen V* feels less high-stakes than *The Boys*, focusing on college students navigating campus life, it still explores significant themes. The new dean of Godolkin University, Cipher, repeatedly tells Marie Moreau she has the potential to be as powerful as Homelander. While Marie’s powers don’t immediately seem impressive, a dramatic moment – bringing her sister back to life after Cipher cuts her throat – reveals her hidden strength. Marie clearly has a lot of untapped potential, and Cipher seems determined to help her unlock it.

Marie faces a new crisis when she discovers Thomas Godolkin isn’t dead, but a prisoner of Cipher. While her friends create a diversion, Marie uses her healing powers to restore Godolkin, who suffered severe burns years ago. He seems fully recovered, but quickly reveals his deception – he’s actually the one pulling the strings behind Cipher and used Marie to help him. Stopping Godolkin, who has the power to control others with abilities, will require everything Marie and her friends have. If they survive, Marie already knows who she’ll help next, as another character desperately needs her healing touch.

Billy Butcher Is on His Last Legs Going Into The Boys Season 5

Okay, so at the beginning of *Gen V* Season 2, Starlight comes to Marie and asks her to look into this thing called Project Odessa. Turns out, it’s the reason Marie even *exists*! But Starlight also lets slip she’s working with someone, and while she won’t say who, I’m pretty sure it’s Billy Butcher. He’s the only one of The Boys who isn’t locked up after everything that happened in Season 4. It makes sense she’d try to team up with him, even after everything. The really sad part though? Butcher is dying because of that brain tumor, so time is running out for both of them.

Butcher is the only one who truly has a chance at stopping Homelander. If Marie doubts she can help, the best thing she could do is restore Butcher to full strength. With his powers back, he could defeat Homelander and break Vought’s hold on the world. If he’s careful, he might even be able to reconnect with Ryan, his former wife’s son with Homelander, and finally be a good father figure. While *The Boys* doesn’t usually offer happy endings, Butcher might actually have a chance at finding peace after everything he’s been through.

Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
