The Boys Officially Explains Its Missing Gen V Characters (& Continues Avoiding 1 Big Problem)

The latest episode of The Boys Season 5 finally addresses what happened to characters from the show Gen V, while still delaying their inevitable appearance. As The Boys heads towards its conclusion, it needs to tie up loose ends from the main series and connect to its spinoff, which is a challenge given the limited number of episodes. So far, the Prime Video series is handling this complex task reasonably well. Be warned: spoilers follow for Season 5, Episode 3.

So far, the fifth season of The Boys is focusing on resolving storylines for established characters. The first three episodes give A-Train a chance to make amends, bring Stan Edgar back into the action, and position several characters to challenge Homelander, all while building on the conflict from his power grab last season. While the new supes from Gen V haven’t appeared yet, the trailer shows they will, and the latest episodes explain why they’ve been absent. This delay actually works in the show’s favor, but the writers will need to handle their eventual introduction carefully.

The Boys Season 5, Episode 3 Sheds Light on Gen V’s Missing Characters

As a huge fan of The Boys, I was really intrigued by the Season 5 premiere. We quickly learn that Marie is now leading a team within Starlight’s resistance, and they were recently operating in Pittsburgh. It’s a clever way to explain why we haven’t seen the Gen V crew yet without completely removing them from the story. They’re still absent this week, but Episode 3 gives us a little more to go on. When the Boys track down Stan Edgar, he seems surprised to see Starlight, and then asks if Marie is running late. It doesn’t reveal where she is, exactly, but it strongly hints that she’s still in communication with both Starlight and Stan. More importantly, it suggests she fully intends to rejoin the group later on – which is a relief!

We’ll likely continue to see mentions of Marie and her team until they eventually appear on screen. This is a clever way for The Boys to keep the Gen V characters relevant even when they aren’t actively involved in the story. While fans might be frustrated by the wait, it’s a smart move by the show. By keeping the Gen V heroes in the background for now, The Boys avoids rushing their introduction and potentially damaging the show’s long-term impact and conclusion.

The Boys Season 5’s Early Episodes Continue to Avoid 1 Big Problem

Although we can expect to see connections between The Boys and Gen V in Season 5, the priority is to wrap up The Boys‘ story properly. As the final season, it needs to give a satisfying conclusion to the characters and events we’ve followed. Introducing the main characters from Gen V too early would steal focus from the established storylines and characters, resulting in an unsatisfying ending. Luckily, by holding off on including characters like Marie until later, The Boys Season 5 can concentrate on giving its core story the ending it deserves.

Consistently referencing these characters suggests they’ll appear later, and it keeps the story consistent after the end of Gen V Season 2. This is a great way to introduce the characters from the upcoming spinoffs, but hopefully, it won’t take too long—otherwise, it could create another problem for the show, similar to issues seen in Gen V.

The Prime Video Show Must Avoid Waiting Too Long & Creating Another Gen V Issue

It’s good that The Boys isn’t rushing to include the main characters from Gen V, but Season 5 will eventually have to address the storylines established in the spinoff. The two shows are now too connected to remain largely separate. At a minimum, Marie Moreau and Project Odessa should play a role in the fight against Homelander, even if they aren’t central to the outcome. This is especially important since Gen V hasn’t been renewed for a third season. While it might get picked up later, if Season 2 is the end, then The Boys will need to tie up loose ends from both series. That means the show can’t afford to keep the Gen V characters on the sidelines for long. However, the way the writers have introduced them so far suggests they can successfully manage both storylines.
