Over the last six years, thanks to The Boys and its prequel, Gen V, we’ve been treated to a huge variety of strange, exciting, and amazing superpowers on screen. It’s true that some aren’t as powerful as others – abilities like Webweaver’s webs and Love Sausage’s, well, *love sausage*, are mostly used for shock value. However, many others are incredibly impressive and could easily compete with the powers of heroes from Marvel and DC.
As a fan, I’ve been thinking about all the different powers we’ve seen in The Boys, and they really cover everything! From Homelander’s flight and heat vision to Victoria Neuman literally making heads explode, Mindstorm’s amazing psychic abilities, and even Soldier Boy’s power to take away other Supes’ abilities, it’s wild. Everyone always assumes Homelander is the strongest Supe, but I’m starting to think there’s a real argument to be made for someone else. Especially after what happened recently – we just saw one of the most incredible displays of power *ever*. Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Gen V Season 2, Episode 5.
Marie’s Powers Are A Game-Changer for The Boys

People have always thought Marie Moreau could be a Supe as strong as-or even stronger than-Homelander. The biggest proof of this so far was her incredible survival after Homelander shot a laser beam into her chest, which even surprised him. But Gen V Season 2 is increasingly showing Marie as the “chosen one” who might be able to defeat the villain from The Boys. We learn she was created through something called the Odessa Project, and there are suggestions her powers come from the same source as Homelander’s. Now, her abilities have grown even more powerful.
In Gen V Season 2, Episode 5, Marie, Emma Meyer, Jordan Li, and Cate Dunlap are trying to break out of the Elmira prison, but they first need to save Marie’s sister, Annabeth. However, they discover she’s been killed – found dead in her cell with a cut throat and surrounded by blood. Marie remembers being told by Cipher that her abilities could work wonders, and she proves it: she manages to use her powers to restore the blood to her sister’s body, heal the wound, and bring Annabeth back to life. While The Boys universe is full of incredible powers – like Kimiko’s ability to heal herself – actually bringing someone back to life is a completely new level of ability.
It’s also important to note that Marie accomplished all of this without completely understanding, or controlling, her powers. When she uses her abilities on Annabeth, she unintentionally causes bleeding, which demonstrates her lack of mastery. While this is currently a risk, it implies she will continue to grow even stronger. The fact that she can now seemingly control blood within living people and potentially resurrect them is a significant development in the fight against Homelander, as she could revive others who fall in battle. This dramatically changes the stakes and offers a new path to victory.
Will We Get Marie vs. Homelander in The Boys Season 5?

As Marie continues to demonstrate incredible powers and is only starting to understand how strong her blood-bending truly is, Gen V appears to be fulfilling its biggest prediction: that she’s on par with Homelander in terms of power. It’s also established that rebellious Supes are already aware of her potential, as Starlight brought her into the fold at the start of Season 2. This suggests Marie is being positioned for a significant part in The Boys Season 5.
She is being trained to be the ultimate weapon to defeat Homelander, and it’s likely that will lead to a confrontation between the two of them. This could be an incredibly impressive battle between Superheroes, and a fight where both sides have a fair chance of winning – potentially even one where Homelander doesn’t come out on top.
However, it seems unlikely that Marie will be the one to ultimately defeat him. It’s not that she isn’t powerful enough, but rather considering the narrative structure. Homelander’s downfall should come at the hands of someone whose story has been interwoven with his for a long time, someone who’s been part of The Boys since the beginning – perhaps Ryan, Billy Butcher, Black Noir, or another established character. Marie might be able to weaken him and set the stage, but the final, decisive blow needs to come from a character within the main series, not a spinoff.
Fresh episodes of Gen V Season 2 become available on Wednesdays through Prime Video. We anticipate that Season 5 of The Boys will premiere in 2026.
