While we don’t have an exact release date on Prime Video yet, I find myself deeply pondering the potential fates of Homelander, Butcher, The Boys, and The Seven based on the cliffhanger ending of the previous seasons.

If you’ve watched the final episode of The Boys season 4 and need a refresher, or if you haven’t seen it yet but want to know what transpired, read on for an easy-to-understand summary of The Boys’ season 4 ending – including all the essential spoilers.

The Boys ending explained: Did Robert Singer survive?

In the beginning of The Boys’ fourth season finale, things seemed grim for President-elect Robert Singer as he faced an attempt on his life from a shapeshifting superhero, who was working under the orders of Sister Sage.

In disguise as Annie, she successfully joined The Boys, and upon her request, Hughie consented to marry her.

Yet, as Singer, The Boys, and their bodyguards retreated into a bunker, Hughie came to understand the deception behind “fake Annie.”

Based on my own experiences and observations, I believe that the situation described in the original text is quite common in the world of politics and entertainment. I’ve seen many instances where impostors or fake personas attempt to deceive the public and gain undeserved fame or power. However, in this particular case, it seems that justice was served when the real Annie arrived to expose the fraud.

What happened to Victoria Neuman?

At the beginning of the final episode of the season, Homelander exposed Victoria Neuman as a superhuman on Firecracker’s TV program, causing her to recognize the threat he posed. In an effort to protect her daughter Zoe, Victoria reached out to Huey and sought assistance from The Boys.

At the Boys’ hangout, she requested their assistance in securing her and Zoe’s safety, as a condition for aiding them in bringing down Vought and Homelander.

I was unaware of Butcher’s past as Grace urged me to meet him despite my growing mistrust towards Homelander. In a moment of desperation, she revealed a shocking truth – Homelander, the man I idolized as my father, had committed an unspeakable act against my mother.

Recognizing that they intended for him to attempt murdering Homelander, Ryan tragically ended Grace’s life instead. In shock, Butcher began to comprehend the potential threat that not only Ryan but also any other superhuman posed to the world.

Butcher acquired power over tentacle-like appendages from V, which emerged from his chest. He went to the Boys’ hideout and informed them of their decision not to engage in business dealings with Neuman. Hughie tried to dissuade him, but it was already past the point of no return. With his newly gained abilities, Butcher incapacitated Zoe and fatally wounded Victoria.

After obtaining the virus from Frenchie, he was determined to release it, knowing that the consequence could potentially mean his own demise as well.

Later on, we discovered that Zoe had been sent to the Red River Institute against her mother’s wishes.

What happened to Homelander?

In the beginning of the episode, Homelander compiled a group of loyal superheroes, intending to utilize their allegiance when his scheme reached its end. Additionally, he intended to eliminate individuals privy to The Seven’s secrets, commencing with Ashley.

Ashley consumed Compound V; afterward, her hair shed and her skull showed signs of distress. The subsequent events remain unknown, but they’re likely to be revealed at the start of season 5.

Later on, Homelander believed the scheme had collapsed. But unexpectedly, Sister Sage appeared and disclosed that actually, some aspects of the plan were concealed by her.

After Neuman’s passing, Sage publicized an edited video that falsely portrayed Singer as having ordered Neuman’s murder, resulting in Singer’s arrest. This incident left a power vacuum at the helm of US politics. Under the 25th Amendment, the Speaker of the House was next in line to assume presidency, but instead, he chose to side with Homelander.

Sage then warned Homelander to listen to her next time, telling him to “buckle up for phase two”.

At Homelander’s command, the Speaker of the House implemented martial law and authorized superheroes nationwide to report solely to Homelander.

Homelander declared that he intended to confront the Starlighters and signaled the start of a fresh era for superheroes.

Where did we leave Butcher and The Boys ahead of season 5?

Towards the close of the season, it appeared that all hope was gone for The Boys. Butcher, infected with a deadly virus, was determined to spread it and eliminate every superhuman on earth. Simultaneously, Homelander began exerting his authority.

I’ve had the pleasure of reading some fascinating comic books lately, and one series that truly stands out is “The Boys” by Garth Ennis. In this gritty tale, the characters often find themselves at crossroads, leading to splits among them.

In no time, they were unexpectedly surrounded and apprehended by superhumans working for Homelander. Love Sausage freed Mother’s Milk, Frenchie was captivated by Cate Dunlap, Kimiko was seized by Sam Riordan (and managed to find her voice in the process, shouting “no”), and Cindy assisted in rescuing Hughie.

With her abilities recharged, Starlight was the sole survivor. She exchanged a meaningful glance with Hughie before taking off into the night sky.

Did Soldier Boy come back?

He did! Sort of…

At the end of the finale, Soldier Boy suddenly emerged, catching up with Homelander who had seized control of the US government. He shared the news of Soldier Boy’s alive-but-unconscious state and arrangements for his preservation in a controlled coma.

Upon seeing Soldier Boy’s unresponsive form, he exclaimed in disbelief: “Really? I can’t believe this has been the case all along.”
