The trailer for Season 5 of The Boys strongly suggests that Homelander will die, and hints at who might be responsible. This season will be the show’s final one, meaning we can anticipate significant character deaths. Following the shocking events of Season 4, the conflict between the heroes and Homelander has reached a boiling point, and the new trailer promises intense violence and foreshadows Homelander’s end.
The main villain, played by Antony Starr, is the character who needs to die in the final season of The Boys. The entire series has been focused on taking him down, and unless they simply freeze him – which isn’t a guaranteed solution – there doesn’t seem to be another way to conclude his story. It makes sense that the show is now hinting at his defeat before the new season premieres on April 8th. The trailer offers some clues about who will ultimately be responsible, though The Boys is known for its unexpected twists. Be warned: the following contains spoilers based on the comic book’s ending.
How The Boys Season 5 Trailer Lays the Groundwork for Homelander’s Death

The trailer for Season 5 of The Boys closes with Homelander relaxing in the Oval Office, a moment that likely foreshadows his eventual fate, mirroring the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. While the show hasn’t followed the comics exactly, it often includes subtle references to the source material. Since Homelander dies in the Oval Office in the comics, this scene is a clear hint at what’s to come, even if the details might differ.
In the comic books, Butcher challenges Homelander in the Oval Office after Homelander kills the president. A similar showdown could still happen in the TV series, as Homelander is clearly in control at the end of Season 4 and a final fight between him and Butcher seems inevitable. However, in the comics, Butcher doesn’t win – Homelander is ultimately killed by Black Noir, who is revealed to be a clone created by Vought to eliminate him. The TV show doesn’t seem to be heading in that direction, so if Homelander dies in the Oval Office, it will probably be at the hands of someone other than Butcher.
Ryan Could Be the One Who Kills Homelander In the Prime Video Show

With a fifth season of The Boys on the way, many fans are wondering how Homelander will meet his end – and who will be responsible. The latest trailer offers a clue around the 1:50 mark, where Homelander declares, “To those who seek to destroy me, the non-believers, the backstabbers, I offer oblivion.” The shot accompanying this line shows all of his enemies, including The Boys, Stan Edgar, and Ashley Barrett. However, the focus specifically lands on Ryan when he says “backstabbers,” suggesting Ryan might play a key role in Homelander’s downfall.
From the start, Ryan and Homelander have had a difficult relationship, and Ryan has many valid reasons to resent his father. Homelander is responsible for his mother’s death, and after season four, Ryan learned the truth about how he was conceived. The season finale also revealed Ryan is the only one powerful enough to stop Homelander, and Grace and Butcher made sure he understands just how evil his father truly is. Though Ryan hesitated to kill Homelander in the finale, his feelings could change – especially if the show is building towards a final showdown with Homelander in the Oval Office.
Ryan Killing Homelander Fits With the Lead-Up to the Villain’s Comics Death

Given that The Boys seems to be building towards a final confrontation between Butcher and Homelander in the White House, it makes sense that Ryan could be the one to ultimately defeat Homelander, taking over the role previously held by Black Noir. The show has heavily focused on the connection between Ryan and Butcher, and despite their strained relationship at the end of Season 4, Ryan would likely come to Butcher’s rescue if necessary. This act could be what finally causes Ryan to turn against Homelander, creating a powerful and moving ending. While we’ll have to wait for Season 5 to know for sure, all the groundwork is there for this to happen. However, defeating Homelander might require a team effort, considering his immense power.
