The Boys season 5: Release date speculation and latest news

As a die-hard fan of The Boys since its inception, I’m both excited and disappointed by the news that the fifth season will be the last. Karl Urban’s recent confirmation that we won’t see new episodes until 2026 feels like an eternity to wait, but I have faith that it will be worth it.

As a long-time fan of superhero shows, I have to admit that the fourth season of The Boys on Prime Video left me absolutely breathless. The intensity of the plot twists and the depth of character development were truly unmatched. Now that this thrilling chapter has come to an end, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions.

In the finale of season 4, titled differently from its original name “Assassination Run,” and including a warning beforehand due to an attempted assassination on former US president Donald Trump, the stakes are significantly raised for everyone involved.

Unfortunately, we have to endure a delay before the next installment of episodes, as per confirmation from actor Karl Urban portraying Billy Butcher.

As a longtime fan of The Boys, I’ve been eagerly anticipating updates on the upcoming fifth season. With the thrilling cliffhanger that ended season 4, I can’t help but wonder: when will we get to see more of this gritty and twisted world? Why is the show coming to an end, and which beloved characters might join us for one last ride? Let’s delve into the latest news on The Boys season 5note: major spoilers from season 4 ahead.

When will The Boys season 5 be released?

According to a recent Instagram update from actor Karl Urban, The Boys season 5 is set for release in the year 2026.

Working with the esteemed Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as depicted in this photo, brought the best part of my day each and every day. For now, that’s all I have to share about “The Boys” on Prime Video. We’ll reunite for the final season in about 2 years (I wish it was sooner).

By examining the release dates of past seasons, we can make an informed estimation of the potential timeline.

Seasons 1 and 2 of the show were released relatively close together, only a year apart. However, production for subsequent seasons has slowed down significantly. There was a gap of about two years before seasons 2 and 3 hit the screens, and another two-year wait between seasons 3 and 4.

Based on the current plan, season 5 is anticipated to premiere around mid-year 2026. Yet, please note that this date may be subject to modification, so stay tuned for further announcements on our page as soon as more definitive details become available.

Why will The Boys season 5 be the final season?

According to Showrunner Eric Kripke, the decision to conclude The Boys after its fifth season was his intent from the beginning, and he ultimately managed to persuade Amazon’s Prime Video to go along with it.

In their conversation with TVLine, he mentioned that Prime Video expressed concern “with care,” without imposing pressure. Instead of insisting on continued production, they asked, “Are you absolutely certain season 5 is the final season? Haven’t you considered producing more?”

He added: “In reality, we’ve been moving towards this outcome for some time. We had a sense it would be a five-season arc, possibly even since the start of season 3. So, we have been carefully plotting the storyline to lead us here.”

“Honestly, they’ve been great about letting us end it on our own terms. I’m really grateful.”

Instead of stopping at the fifth season, fans can relax knowing that the world of The Boys will continue. In fact, a second season of Gen V is upcoming, and a new spin-off set in Mexico is being developed. This indicates that there’s plenty of room for the universe to expand and endure.

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke announced that the narrative of “The Boys” series will conclude with season 5. There might be other projects in the works for potential continuations, including Gen V, but the main storyline of “The Boys” is coming to an end.

Who will be back to star in The Boys season 5?

It’s unannounced who will make up the cast for “The Boys” season 5, but based on previous seasons, it’s reasonable to expect that most, if not all, of the primary actors from season 4 will return – assuming their characters didn’t meet an untimely end.

In simpler terms, it’s unlikely that Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman and Laila Robins as Grace Mallory will make appearances again, except possibly in flashbacks. They met their grim ends in the season 4 finale.

I’m excited to share that as a follower of the show, I believe Jensen Ackles’s Soldier Boy will significantly impact the storyline in season 5. This expectation arises from the intriguing cliffhanger at the end of the last season when Homelander discovered Soldier Boy in cryosleep.

Instead of “Here’s a full list,” you could say “Behold the following characters and cast members who have the potential to reappear in season 5:” or simply “The following is a list of possible returning characters and cast members for season 5:”

  • Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell
  • Karl Urban as Billy Butcher
  • Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight
  • Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk
  • Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko
  • Tomer Capone as Serge/Frenchie
  • Antony Starr as Homelander
  • Chace Crawford as The Deep
  • Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett
  • Cameron Crovetti as Ryan
  • Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy
  • Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir
  • Susan Heyward as Sister Sage
  • Valorie Curry as Firecracker
  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe Kessler
  • Rosemarie DeWitt as Daphne Campbell
  • Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve
