The Amazon Prime series “The Boys” stands out among other superhero franchises due to its uncensored nature on a streaming platform that allows for graphic violence and strong language. Each episode features a significant amount of violence and a generous dose of profanity that would sink a battleship. What sets “The Boys” apart is its humorous approach, often poking fun at popular trends in the industry, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiple phases. Vought International, a company featured in the series, even has a production wing that produces movies and TV shows starring their superheroes, announcing these projects in a comical manner by highlighting all the content fans need to consume to stay updated.
It appears that those in charge might not be giving enough careful consideration to their work, as they risk repeating the very patterns they’re making fun of. The issue at hand involves the spinoff series, Gen V, which seems to be getting a bit too similar to a show nearing its end and could use as little distraction as possible.
Gen V & The Boys Have Already Crossed Over in a Major Way
In a more casual and readable style,
The first season of Gen V maintains a low-profile, subtly linking to The Boys through mentions of Vought, which has ties with Godolkin University, the show’s setting. However, the narrative primarily revolves around the young stars, like Marie Moreau. Upon arriving at Godolkin, Marie discovers that the university has a sinister side lurking beneath its surface, potentially engulfing her if she’s not cautious. As other students begin to notice these peculiar happenings, they offer their support to help Marie reveal the school’s dark secrets. However, their attempts to expose the truth are ultimately unsuccessful as Homelander appears in the season finale, subdues them, and incarcerates them all. Despite it appearing that the Gen V characters may not return after this initial season (since Season 2 hasn’t been released yet), this is actually not the case.
In the fourth season of “The Boys”, we find the storyline resuming after the events in the spinoff. References to what happened at Godolkin are scarce, but a significant twist unfolds in the last episode as Sam and Cate appear to arrest some members of the main team. Homelander gains control over the White House and imposes martial law, allowing Supers who support him, including Cate and Sam, to detain anyone they deem dangerous. It looks like getting Hughie and his companions out of jail could be a central focus in “The Boys” Season 5, unless “Gen V” takes action first.
Gen V Season 2 Could Be as Important as The Boys Season 5
Given the current chaotic global situation, it’s unlikely that Gen V Season 2, airing before The Boys Season 5, can afford to ignore the ongoing events. Unlike Marvel Studios, Prime Video isn’t known for releasing unrelated projects in New York City simultaneously due to the complexity behind the scenes. However, by introducing Starlight, one of the few characters who evades Homelander’s henchmen, into the storyline, Gen V is gaining attention and making itself a must-watch. The season will see Starlight traveling to Godolkin to recruit Marie for a mission, but her involvement remains unclear. Regardless, her actions are expected to catch the attention of Black Noir and The Deep, who are also set to appear in the upcoming season.
Endgame to conclude The Boys could be thrilling but may contradict the show’s reputation for satirizing such events.
The Boys and Gen V are streaming on Prime Video.
