The Boys Season 5: Who Plays Ryan This Season?

Season 5 of The Boys is coming soon, and the latest trailer reveals most of the original cast will return, including Ryan, the son of Homelander (Antony Starr) and Becca (Shantel VanSanten). Since he first appeared in the season 1 finale, Ryan has become a surprisingly important character in the series.

Ryan has undergone a significant transformation throughout the series. Initially, he was simply a tool used by both Vought and Butcher (Karl Urban), but he’s now a teenager grappling with his abilities and choosing between the two father figures in his life. The trailer for The Boys season 5 shows a glimpse of a much older Ryan compared to his appearance last season.

Ryan Is Still Played By Cameron Crovetti In The Boys Season 5

Cameron Crovetti is back as Ryan, but you might not recognize him! He’s grown a lot since we last saw the character two years ago, looking much older now. It’s understandable if you think a new actor is playing the part.

This isn’t the first time the character of Ryan has been different. Viewers learn in season one, episode eight, “You Found Me,” that Ryan was actually raised by a living Becca. Parker Corno originally played this version of Ryan, but he was later replaced by Crovetti in the following season.

Surprisingly, a third actor has played Ryan, Cameron’s twin brother, Nicholas. While both Nicholas and Cameron were previously in Big Little Lies as Josh and Max Wright, Nicholas’s role in The Boys is limited to performing stunts in place of Cameron, according to HollywoodLife.

In the third episode of season 2, titled “Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men”, Homelander pushes his son off a roof as a strange attempt to teach him a lesson. Because Cameron, the actor playing the son, was busy with another scene, Nicholas offered to perform the stunt so the filmmakers could create a digital version to later replace him with Cameron.

Ryan Will Be A Vital Character In The Boys Season 5

From the beginning, Ryan’s story has been defined by his connection to both Homelander and Butcher – he’s Homelander’s son and, in many ways, Butcher’s adopted son. Because of this, he has good reason not to trust either of them. Each season, it feels like the choice Ryan makes about which side to support will be a major turning point in the show.

This character possesses the immense power of Homelander and believes he could lead effectively for the greater good. However, unlike Homelander, he wasn’t subjected to a traumatic childhood or exploited by Vought. He shares Butcher’s core humanity, but lacks Butcher’s consuming anger and thirst for revenge.

It’s uncertain which side Ryan will choose, and his decision could determine the ultimate fate of the series. The trailer hints he might join Butcher, especially with Homelander’s mention of betrayal, but anything is possible in the final season of The Boys.
