The hit satirical superhero series, “The Boys,” is approaching its conclusion, and lead actor Antony Starr is expressing feelings of emotion. Created by Eric Kripke, this show is adapted from a comic book titled “The Boys” written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Since its debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2019, the series has enjoyed both critical acclaim and commercial success, with a fifth and final season having been announced last summer following nearly eight months of filming. After production on Season 5 wrapped in July, Starr shared an emotional goodbye message on Instagram Tuesday night, addressing not only the show but also his character Homelander.
Starr expressed how challenging it is to articulate just how fantastic this journey has been, filled with life-changing experiences, personal growth, and an exceptional team. This ride has been a pinnacle moment in my career, he said, accompanied by some raw backstage photos. Initially, I didn’t know what lay ahead when we started this project, but it quickly gained momentum like an unstoppable force, making its mark on the television industry, barring brief pauses due to Covid-19 and labor disputes. There’s simply nothing else quite like it; it carves out a unique niche for itself.
The filming for the last season concluded in July, as Kripke announced. However, Starr mentioned that he’s been taking some time to reflect and come to terms with the end of “The Boys” series. During this period, he looked back on those final days of production and expressed his gratitude. He sent a heartfelt message of thanks to the cast and crew of “The Boys,” as well as Amazon and Sony, who took a chance on such an unconventional project.
For the last four seasons, including the upcoming fifth season, Starr has portrayed Homelander, the main antagonist of the series. As the leader of The Seven and the world’s strongest superhero, Homelander is a powerful adversary that the central team of anti-heroes will confront once more in Season 5. Starr expressed gratitude for the complex character, saying it provided an opportunity to explore and exceed creative limits in a way they had not anticipated.
Later, Starr expressed heartfelt appreciation towards Kripke, who played an integral role in their co-parenting journey, using the unique and intriguing term “co-parent.
Sir, we’ve unleashed something extraordinary. And I, too, will mourn its departure, as well as you. Until the final season airs, when I’ll catch up with you again. However, this incredible part of our creativity is now concluded, and I’ll surely miss it.
Starr expressed heartfelt gratitude at the end of the post: “A huge thank you to our amazing fans! You’re the lifeblood that keeps us going; without you, we wouldn’t be here. Your appreciation is second to none, and we have a deep respect for your excellent taste.
Alongside Starr, the cast of “The Boys” includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Elisabeth Shue, Colby Minifie, Aya Cash, Claudia Doumit, Jensen Ackles, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. At the moment, there’s no announced release date for Season 5 of “The Boys”.
