The Capture season 3: Release date and latest news

I was completely hooked by “The Capture” – it’s one of the best thrillers I’ve seen in ages! The last season was back in 2022, and I honestly thought we wouldn’t get any more of Rachel Carey’s story, or see how she’d continue to fight against that scary “Correction” technology. I’m so glad there’s more to come!

Good news! The series has been renewed for a third season on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and new episodes are coming very soon.

The third season starts a year after the events of season two, where Rachel (played by Holliday Grainger) publicly exposed the organization known as Correction. She did this through a news report that featured a digitally altered video of Isaac Turner (Paapa Essiedu).

Wondering when The Capture will return, who’s back for the new season, and what the story will be about? Here’s what you need to know.

Read on for everything you need to know about The Capture season 3.

Will The Capture return for season 3?

Yes, a third season is happening! It was officially announced in April 2025, nearly three years after the second season finished airing.

When season 3 was announced, creator Chanan expressed his excitement about working with returning cast members Holliday Grainger, Lia Williams, Ben Miles, and Ron Perlman, as well as welcoming new addition Killian Scott to the show.

In past seasons, Rachel Carey, played by Holliday, has been the one investigating the problems in other people’s lives. I’m particularly thrilled that this season, the third one, puts Carey right in the middle of the mystery.

It’s not surprising the third season took a while to get confirmed. Creator Chanan explained in 2023 that he wanted the show’s technology to feel ahead of its time, so he needed to wait for real-world technology to develop enough to match his vision.

Chanan believes that advancements in deepfakes, fake news, and artificial intelligence are rapidly evolving. He feels the show ‘The Capture’ explored how frightening these developments could become and what potential consequences they might bring.

Honestly, after working on these two series, it feels like we’ve really pushed the boundaries of what’s possible. Sometimes I actually need to step back and let the real world – and the inevitable, often scary predictions about the future – catch up to what we’ve created. It’s a bit of a strange feeling, like we’re ahead of the curve and waiting to see if our fictional world starts to mirror reality.

Honestly, this film doesn’t feel like it’s set in some distant future – it’s really about what’s going on right now. Because of that, I feel like I need to step back for a bit, see how things unfold in the real world, and then revisit it. It just feels too connected to current events to really process properly until we see where everything is headed.

When will The Capture season 3 be released?

While we don’t know the specific date yet, The Capture season 3 is scheduled to be released in Spring 2026.

The new season, season 3, will be released nearly four years after season 2, which aired in 2022. Fans have waited a while between seasons before – three years passed between season 1 and season 2.

It doesn’t look like this show will be back every year, even if it gets renewed for a fourth season. Instead, it seems it will return occasionally to explore the frightening side of new technology.

Who will star in The Capture season 3?

Holliday Grainger returns as Rachel Carey for the third season of The Capture, and she’s joined by familiar faces like Ben Miles, Lia Williams, and Ron Perlman. Indira Varma also reprises her role as Khadija Khan, first introduced in season two.

It’s great to see Paapa Essiedu reprise his role as Isaac Turner for the new season. After Callum Turner, the lead from the first season, didn’t return for season 2, it wasn’t certain Essiedu would be back as well.

Season 3 will feature new cast members Killian Scott, Joe Dempsie, Hugh Quarshie, Linus Roache, Andrew Buchan, and Amanda Drew. Details about the roles their characters will play are currently being kept secret.

What will happen in The Capture season 3?

The season finale saw Rachel succeed in exposing Correction, using an interview with a convincing digital recreation of MP Isaac Turner, conducted by Khadija Khan.

Season 3 will begin a year after the events of the previous episodes. The story picks up with Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) having exposed a secret UK intelligence program called Correction – a program that manipulated videos – by broadcasting a deepfake of a government minister to the country.

While under investigation for improper use of a correctional facility, Carey has been appointed Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command. She’s committed to rebuilding public confidence in surveillance technology with the launch of the new Operation Veritas camera system.

Then, suddenly, a shockingly well-planned terrorist attack strikes at the center of British power, leaving only one person to bear witness.

As Carey digs further into the case, she finds herself entangled in a growing international crisis that affects the highest levels of British government, intelligence agencies, and the press. The conspiracy runs deep within the system, and she’s determined to find out who’s really in control. Facing escalating danger and with few people she can rely on, Carey must decide how far she’s willing to go to uncover the truth.
