We just received the trailer for “The Carpenter’s Son,” a new film starring Nicolas Cage and FKA Twigs. It got us thinking about what cute nicknames people might give FKA Twigs’ future children, but let’s get back to the movie!
In Roman Egypt, a family finds themselves at the center of a spiritual battle in The Carpenter’s Son. Joseph, Mary, and their teenage son, Jesus, have been living under constant threat, holding onto their beliefs. When they stop in a small village, chaos erupts as a mysterious girl tries to lead Jesus away from his father’s teachings. As Jesus gives in to temptation, Joseph realizes a powerful demonic force is at work, challenging his faith.
Writer and director Lotfy Nathan (known for films like 12 O’Clock Boys and Harka) brings his personal experiences as a Coptic Christian to create a carefully made thriller that blends genres. The film features striking visuals of good versus evil and is based on “The Infancy Gospel of Thomas,” an ancient text from the 2nd or 3rd century that tells stories about Jesus’s miraculous childhood.
Like many viewers going to see a Nicolas Cage movie, we’re always curious about how over-the-top his performance will be. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it appears he’s continuing that trend.
