The popular horror film series The Conjuring is continuing with a new prequel, The Conjuring: First Communion, and a release date has now been announced.
Following the success of The Conjuring: Last Rites, which wrapped up Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s portrayal of Ed and Lorraine Warren and broke box office records, a prequel called First Communion has been announced. It’s scheduled to be released on September 10, 2027.

The horror film Last Rites was a huge financial success, becoming the highest-grossing movie in its franchise and one of only three horror films ever to earn over $495 million worldwide, despite a relatively small $55 million budget. Director Michael Chaves confirmed to ComicBook that this film concludes the series, stating, “It is done. This is the final chapter – that’s why we called it Last Rites. It’s the last one. There’s no other Conjuring movies. It is absolutely the end.”
Following the success of the previous movie, the filmmakers are continuing the story with the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. However, details about the new prequel, titled First Communion, are still unknown, including whether Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise their roles. The prequel may explore the younger years of the Warrens, as briefly shown in Last Rites. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are collaborating on this new installment, which will expand on a series that started over a decade ago.
