The new DC Universe has cleverly avoided a challenge that Marvel’s Cinematic Universe originally struggled with – establishing clear power levels for its characters. By focusing on a strong start with its first three films, the DCU is building a solid foundation for a long-lasting franchise, drawing from its rich history of comics and beloved characters.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a great example of how to build a long-running story with superheroes in movies and TV shows, but it’s not perfect. In its early phases, the MCU focused on heroes with more realistic powers, and some of its strongest characters, like Thor and the Hulk, seemed to become weaker as the story went on. This is a different approach than DC Comics has taken with its superhero universe.

The DC Universe’s First 3 Movies Let Audiences See Some Of The Franchise’s Most Powerful Heroes From Day One (& Some Unique Abilities)

The movie Superman showcased the hero’s iconic powers, including his incredible speed – established a few years into his career – allowing him to fight giant monsters and accomplish seemingly impossible tasks with ease. Beyond Superman himself, the film also highlighted the impressive abilities of other key heroes, such as Green Lantern Guy Gardner and the super-intelligent Mr. Terrific.

I’m really excited for the next two DCU movies! They seem like they’re going to build out this universe in a big way, and really showcase what some of our heroes can do. I’m especially looking forward to Supergirl in June 2026. From what I’ve heard, she’s just as powerful as Superman, and the movie seems to be based on the Woman of Tomorrow comic, which is known for really putting Supergirl through a lot – so we’re definitely going to see her powers on full display!

Even though the story focuses on the villain Clayface, it actually reveals a lot about Batman. The extent of Clayface’s shape-shifting abilities helps show just how skilled Batman is, especially considering he often faces much tougher opponents.

By fully developing the Kryptonian family and introducing a variety of powerful heroes right away, the DCU appears to be avoiding a problem the MCU faced early on: having to weaken its strongest characters to fit the overall power levels of the team.

The DC Universe’s Release Order & Timeline Means The Franchise Can Have Its Strongest Heroes From Day One

Beginning the DC Universe story with its heroes already established and experienced seems like a smart decision that will benefit the new films we’re seeing.

This approach avoids retelling well-known origin stories, such as Batman’s. More importantly, it allows the DCU to start with established versions of its heroes who are already proficient in their abilities, enabling exciting and impactful on-screen action right away.

As a huge DC fan, I’ve already seen some incredible battles and displays of power in these films, and it’s obvious the filmmakers aren’t afraid to go big with their key characters. Honestly, that’s really exciting because it means they’re setting things up for some truly epic stories as the DC Universe really gets going. It’s a great sign for keeping audiences hooked!
