In many superhero productions, the fight sequences aren’t typically recognized for awards due to their reliance on visual effects and camera techniques. This is because the characters often possess extraordinary powers beyond what ordinary people could handle physically. However, exceptions like Netflix’s Daredevil and The CW’s Arrow exist, but they are scarce. As a result, the superhero genre faces an uphill battle when compared to other prominent action series. What everyone aspires to achieve, naturally, is the level of success found in the John Wick series, which places Keanu Reeves’ assassin in seemingly impossible predicaments that he manages to escape using unparalleled methods of combat.
In the shift of the John Wick series with Keanu Reeves stepping back, a gap has emerged. James Gunn’s DC Universe seems to aim to fill this void, as its latest release appears to borrow a move directly from Wick, but with an increased level of intensity. This intense scene could mark the beginning of a competition between the franchises, determining which one excels more at action and violent scenes.
Peacemaker Does His Best John Wick Impression in Season 2
In the beginning of “Peacemaker” Season 2, Christopher Smith finds himself feeling low, as even the Justice Gang distances themselves from him, and Emilia Harcourt shows no interest in him romantically. Desperate for a change, Chris ventures into his father’s alternate dimension where his entire family is alive. What makes this universe intriguing is that he and Harcourt had been together at some point in the past. When the dimension’s Peacemaker passes away, Chris seizes the opportunity to step into his doppelganger’s life. His initial mission is to win back Harcourt, which he attempts by visiting her at work and professing his changed ways, but their meeting is interrupted when the Sons of Liberty detonate an explosion in the park. Together, they uncover the true target and Chris decides the most effective way to demonstrate his devotion is by saving the day.
As I burst into the room through a shattered window, I was ready to take down the goons guarding the Sons of Liberty. One by surprise, I swiftly took out one with a well-placed copier hit, followed by a few quick shots. But it was the unsuspecting target who really caught my attention.
Crouched from above, I ambushed the man with an unexpected move – jabbing two pencils into his ears. The shock was palpable, and in just a few moments, he crumpled to the floor. While John Wick has earned his reputation for creative kills using a single pencil, my unique method of attack certainly gave him a run for his money.
In essence, Peacemaker has launched its first salvo against John Wick, and I’m ready to keep pushing the boundaries in our ongoing battle.
The DCU’s Alternate Realities Aren’t Ready for Peacemaker
In the captivating realm I’ve come to appreciate, there’s still much Chris, or Peacemaker, has yet to grasp. Though his popularity among the Top Trio and the public is undeniable, he remains unaware of the type of hero he embodies. Cracks in this knowledge become evident as we delve into Episode 3, where even a seasoned cop like Harcourt is taken aback by Peacemaker’s acrobatics without his suit. The Sons of Liberty, our adversaries, are equally baffled by the sheer brutality he displays, effortlessly neutralizing them. It seems that in this world, Peacemaker occupies a position of immense power, a situation echoing John Wick’s experiences in more ways than one.
In the upcoming episodes of “Peacemaker”, our title character may find himself in tricky situations, as he’ll need to think creatively to avoid being discovered without compromising his undercover status. As for how he’ll deal with adversaries, it’s uncertain whether he’ll opt for a more conventional approach like riding a horse with a sword or choose an unconventional method such as using a library book to attack. Regardless, the world will be hot on his trail, providing numerous chances to demonstrate that he possesses the same level of skill and danger as cinema’s most iconic characters.
Peacemaker is streaming on HBO Max.
