The DC Universe has achieved a significant early success with the film Superman, which has been well-received by both critics and audiences and has become the year’s highest-earning superhero movie, bringing in over $614 million worldwide. This strong start sets the stage for the franchise, but it won’t truly take off until its core heroes – the Trinity – are fully established. While Superman is a great beginning, both Batman and Wonder Woman need their own dedicated films to solidify the universe’s foundation, and DC Studios’ James Gunn has emphasized that making this happen is a key goal. Unfortunately, details about these projects have been scarce. However, it looks like fans eager for news about the Batman movie may finally be getting some updates soon.
In a recent interview with Variety about their new horror series, IT: Welcome to Derry, director Andy Muschietti and his sister/producer Barbara Muschietti were questioned about The Brave and the Bold. Barbara briefly stated that Andy is still intended to direct the film, but they couldn’t discuss it further. Andy then offered a potential timeframe for updates, saying they’d be able to talk about it in a couple of months, before quickly admitting he’d said too much.
Andy Muschietti Revealed More Than He Thinks About the DCU’s Batman

Andy Muschietti recently hinted that news about The Brave and the Bold is coming in just a couple of months, which suggests the movie is further along in development than many realize. James Gunn has insisted every DC Universe project needs a finished script before moving forward, so it’s likely the script for this film is now complete. This means the studio is probably preparing to schedule the movie for production and announce an official release date – a big leap forward for a project that was previously only listed as “in development.”
The announcement’s timing is ideal for Warner Bros. Discovery’s overall plans. The Muschiettis are heavily involved with IT: Welcome to Derry, a highly anticipated new series on HBO. The company likely wants them fully dedicated to promoting the show without any competing distractions. With the series premiering this Sunday and concluding in about two months, the timeframe provided by Muschietti makes perfect sense. Once Welcome to Derry finishes airing, promotion can easily shift to their next big project, The Brave and the Bold.
Adding Batman to the DC Universe lineup in 2027 is a logical move. The year before, in September 2026, the film Clayface will be released, starting to develop the Gotham City side of this new universe. Then, releasing Batman in 2027 would pair it with the already planned Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, set for July 9th. This would firmly establish both Superman and Batman as the central heroes of the DCU, all within one major year for blockbusters.
