During an interview with Screen Rant to promote his new movie Supergirl (where he plays Lobo), Jason Momoa was asked which DC characters he’d like to see Lobo team up with. He suggested Wonder Woman would be a good match. This led to a conversation about actress Xochitl Arjona potentially playing Wonder Woman, and Momoa simply said, “She’s hot.”
Could Adria Arjona Be Wonder Woman in the DCU?
The recent casting news is intriguing because actress Milena Arjona is already involved with the DC Universe. She’s set to appear in next summer’s Man of Tomorrow, but her specific role hasn’t been officially announced, despite reports from April. Fans are divided on who she might play. Some think she’ll be Maxima, a powerful queen who is determined to be with Superman, while others believe she’s actually Wonder Woman and the Maxima rumors are meant to mislead. James Gunn, who is directing Man of Tomorrow and co-leads DC Studios, usually responds to fan speculation online, but he hasn’t said anything about Arjona’s role yet.
As a big DC fan, I’ve been thinking about who should appear in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film, and honestly, Maxima feels like the smarter choice right now. She’s got a cool history with Brainiac in the comics – remember the “Panic in the Sky” storyline? – and they could really play with that. Imagine her starting as Brainiac’s reluctant partner before switching sides to help Superman. Plus, she’s usually a bit of a morally gray character, which would be awesome to explore. Wonder Woman, though? I think introducing her in Man of Tomorrow might be too much. The movie already has a lot going on, and with Wonder Woman being such a huge player in the new DCU, it feels like she deserves her own film where she can really shine as the main character. It just feels like the better way to do her story justice.
Arjona could convincingly play either role, but many fans are hoping she’ll be cast as Wonder Woman. She’s proven she can handle both dramatic character work and big action sequences – as seen in her excellent performance in Andor – making her a natural fit for Diana. Plus, she’s been gaining momentum in films like Hit Man and Splitsville, and seems ready for a leading role in a major superhero project, and few roles are bigger than Wonder Woman.
Maxima has the potential to be a significant character in the DC Universe. In the comics, she’s been a member of the Justice League, and if Xochitl Arjona is playing her, as many believe, she could play a major role in future installments. It will be fascinating to see how her story develops. Production is underway on Man of Tomorrow, and fans are already scouring set photos and videos for hints about Arjona’s character.
