Based on Nick Cave’s novel, The Death of Bunny Munro tells the story of a father and son navigating a difficult journey following a heartbreaking loss.
Matt Smith, known for his roles in Doctor Who and House of the Dragon, stars in the film, with a score composed by Cave and his frequent collaborator, Warren Ellis, who is also a member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
This group is one of many acclaimed artists included on the soundtrack for ‘The Death of Bunny Munro.’ However, Nick Cave recently shared at the London Literature Festival that he wasn’t heavily involved in choosing the licensed music for the film.
He delegated the key task to the team at Clerkenwell Films and was pleased with how it turned out.
Cave described the music as a strange mix – it acknowledges difficult and upsetting themes, but consistently returns to a more positive, energetic, and optimistic indie pop sound, creating a surprisingly uplifting experience.
By the sixth episode, the show stops being funny and gets increasingly dark. However, the music manages to keep it from feeling completely bleak.
Nick Cave’s original songs for The Death of Bunny Munro are much more sad and emotional than the songs he didn’t write himself.
