Hugh Jackman, famous for playing a beloved superhero, is taking on a new role in the upcoming thriller, The Death of Robin. The A24 film offers a fresh take on the legendary outlaw, and Jackman looks completely different as a rough and weathered version of the character.
Entertainment Weekly recently shared a first look at Hugh Jackman in his upcoming film, The Death of Robin Hood, which also stars Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård. The A24 movie portrays Robin Hood as an aging, injured man being cared for by a woman with secrets. The film aims to show a more human side of the legendary character, revealing the ‘scars, pain, regret, and love’ that shaped him. Jackman, who looks dramatically different in the role, told EW that the script appealed to him because it presented Robin Hood as a flawed and relatable ‘real man’.
What really stands out about Mike’s take on Robin Hood is the strength of the story and its exploration of how power can be a force for both good and evil. This Robin Hood feels incredibly real – flawed, scarred, and carrying the weight of his past, including love and regret. It’s a story with depth and, for me, it’s genuinely moving and human.
Michael Sarnoski, the director of films like A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig, offers a new take on the Robin Hood story. His film focuses on the later years of the legendary outlaw, forcing him to confront his history of crime and adventure. While the classic tale portrays Robin Hood as a hero who robs from the wealthy to help the poor, The Death of Robin Hood may present a different perspective.
He was a dangerous criminal responsible for awful acts, a truly monstrous figure. Now, after living a long life, he’s watching legends grow around his name. He’s grappling with the strange feeling of being seen as a hero when he knows the truth about his past.
