The Death of Robin Hood first-look trailer stars X-Men and Killing Eve legends in moody take on classic tale

Only a few months after the release of the Robin Hood TV series on MGM+, a new movie about the legendary outlaw is in the works. This time, A24 will produce the film, and Hugh Jackman will play Robin Hood.

The first trailer for the new movie, The Death of Robin Hood, is out now. Based on the two-minute preview, this version of the classic story appears to be much darker and more serious than previous adaptations.

The trailer opens with a rough-voiced, bearded Jackman asking, “Want to hear a secret?” He then reveals a surprising twist on the legend of Robin Hood: “Everything people say about him is a lie. He wasn’t a hero, but a violent criminal.”

Then, get this – he is Robin Hood! He starts explaining it himself, and it’s all backed up by these really intense images showing him doing some seriously violent stuff. It totally drives home what he’s saying, seeing him actually do all these things.

The trailer shows an older version of the character grappling with painful memories. However, there are also glimpses of hope after he meets a mysterious woman, played by Jodie Comer, who seemingly saved him, and a young girl he begins to mentor.

The movie boasts a strong cast including Hugh Jackman (known from X-Men) and Jodie Comer (from Killing Eve), alongside Bill Skarsgård (starring in Nosferatu), Murray Bartlett (of The White Lotus), and Noah Jupe (from Hamnet). Michael Sarnoski, who directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, directs the film.

The movie is described as a new, darker take on a well-known story, though it doesn’t have a release date in the UK yet.

The film unfolds with its protagonist confronting the consequences of his criminal past. He’s a hardened and wounded man, left for dead after a final, brutal fight. However, a mysterious woman offers him an unexpected opportunity for redemption.
