Unfortunately, many games that sounded amazing never actually got released, even if they were connected to well-known franchises.

This applies to many games from Ubisoft, particularly lately. The company has recently canceled several well-known games, including sequels and spin-offs. One game people have been wondering about is Tom Clancy’s The Division 3. Even though the original game director left and there haven’t been any recent updates, the development team has hinted that the sequel is still being worked on.

The Division 3 Is Reportedly Still In The Works

Recently, the future of The Division 3 has been uncertain, particularly after the departure of its executive producer, Julian Gerighty, who moved to EA to work on Battlefield. With other significant changes happening at Ubisoft, including layoffs and cancelled projects, fans are worried about the series’ future. However, senior producer Fredrik Brönjemark has reaffirmed Ubisoft’s commitment to the game, stating that it’s still being developed. He also shared that the game is largely staying true to its original vision and isn’t undergoing major revisions.

In an interview with GL.biz, the game’s producer expressed sadness about the departure of Gerighty, but assured fans that development of The Division 3 is on solid ground. They stated they have a clear plan for the game’s future and know exactly what they want to achieve. This indicates that Gerighty’s leaving likely won’t drastically change the game’s direction and that his vision may still be reflected in the final product.

Ubisoft has been canceling several games and projects, but The Division is one of the franchises – along with Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed – that they’re continuing to develop with funding from Tencent. This indicated that The Division still had a future with Ubisoft. Recently, Philippe Brönjemark and The Division 2 creative director Yannick Banchereau reassured fans that Ubisoft is still actively maintaining The Division 2 online, and they plan to make 2026 – the series’ 10th anniversary – its biggest year yet.

The Division Fans Shouldn’t Give Up Hope Yet

As a big fan of The Division, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about The Division 3 ever since it was officially announced back in 2023. Honestly, we haven’t seen much about it yet! It’s supposed to continue the story after The Division 2 and really ramp up the danger. We’ve been hoping for a new main game since 2019, but things got a little worrying when the free-to-play spin-off, Heartland, was cancelled. That made it seem like Ubisoft was hesitant to commit unless a game looked like a sure thing. With all the changes happening at Ubisoft recently, I started to fear The Division 3 might be quietly shelved, and that’s definitely a concern!

Despite the possibility of cancellation, recent feedback from the development team is encouraging. Ubisoft seems to have enough faith in the current state of The Division 3 to keep it in development, unlike the Prince of Persia remake and an unannounced Assassin’s Creed game, which were recently canceled. This is good news for fans who haven’t heard much about the game since its announcement. Although a release date and details about the game are still unknown, it suggests that The Division 3 is still a promising project and fans have reason to remain optimistic.
