Julian Gerighty, a lead director and producer on the popular game The Division, has left Ubisoft to join Electronic Arts (EA) and work on the next Battlefield game. Gerighty has been a key figure in The Division franchise since it began and also recently directed the Star Wars Outlaws game.
On Friday, Massive Entertainment, the studio behind The Division and part of Ubisoft, announced that Julian Gerighty was leaving. They thanked him for his contributions and reassured fans that the team who originally created the game’s world remains in place.
It’s really sad to see him go, but his impact on Massive will definitely be felt for a long time. As a player, it’s good to know that the team who built the world we love – the one he helped create – is still here and just as dedicated as ever. They’re committed to keeping *The Division 2*, *Survivors*, *Resurgence*, and even *The Division 3* moving forward with big plans, so we don’t have to worry about the future of the games!
Gerighty announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s moving on to a new adventure after his time working on The Division. He expressed excitement for the future of the game and hinted at exciting things the development teams have been creating. He signed off with a message of good luck and a tribute to the game and its community.
It’s currently unknown what Gerighty’s new role will be at Battlefield Studios. However, an announcement from Massive Entertainment hints that he’s joined DICE, the main studio behind the Battlefield games. DICE is one of four teams within Battlefield Studios, alongside Criterion Games, Motive Studio, and Ripple Effect.
Mathieu Gerighty is leaving the company just a week after revealing plans for both a new expansion to The Division 2, called Survivors, and the next full installment in the series, The Division 3. The Division 2: Survivors, planned for release in late 2026, will take inspiration from the popular Survival DLC for the original game. The Division 3 was first announced back in 2023.
He announced during the presentation that a sequel is being developed, and hinted it will be just as successful as the original *The Division*. Considering how much of an impact the first game had on the co-op looter shooter genre – and how popular it became – that’s a very ambitious goal.
The third installment of The Division is currently in development, and that’s no longer a secret – it’s been officially announced. In a recent interview, a source described the project as incredibly promising. While details are scarce, those working on it at Massive Entertainment are confident it will be just as groundbreaking as the original Division game.
It’s disappointing for fans of The Division to see Frédéric Gerighty leave Ubisoft. He’s been the driving force behind the series from the start and played a key role in making The Division 2 a standout co-op shooter, considered by many to be one of the best available on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation.
For Battlefield fans, the arrival of Laurent Gerighty at Battlefield Studios is a big deal. Although Battlefield 6 was a huge hit when it first came out in 2025, player numbers have dropped recently. The developers have even postponed the release of Season 2 to ensure it’s a success. Bringing in a seasoned leader like Gerighty could be exactly what Battlefield Studios needs to improve the game and regain players.
