The Nintendo Switch 2 will feature several exclusive games launching in 2026, and one of the most anticipated is The Duskbloods, created by FromSoftware. Players familiar with FromSoftware’s other games – like Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Bloodborne – will likely recognize familiar elements in The Duskbloods, especially considering its apparent Victorian-era setting. However, another promising action RPG is also in development, offering a similar dark and challenging experience before The Duskbloods is potentially available.
Currently, very little is known about The Duskbloods, leaving fans unsure of what to expect from the game. With FromSoftware focused on Elden Ring: Nightreign, other action RPGs could gain popularity while we wait for their next major release. Challenging combat and difficult bosses aren’t unique to FromSoftware, and some other games actually offer a refreshing alternative.
Lords Of The Fallen 2 Has A Planned 2026 Release That Promises Dark Fantasy Action

Lords of the Fallen 2 is an action role-playing game and a sequel to the 2023 title. Set in a dark fantasy world, it’s likely to appeal to players who enjoy challenging, ‘Soulslike’ games. A unique feature allows your character to travel between the realms of the living and the dead using a special lamp, changing the environment and opening up new areas. While this can lead to valuable discoveries, it also unleashes dangerous enemies.
This game offers a similar challenge and sense of accomplishment to Dark Souls, rewarding players who master its mechanics. While the original Lords of the Fallen had flaws, the upcoming sequel appears to build on its best features. A unique system called Umbral adds something new to the Soulslike genre without sacrificing the RPG elements fans enjoy.
Similar to other games inspired by the Souls series, Lords of the Fallen 2 lets you create a character tailored to your preferred playstyle. Whether you enjoy casting spells, fighting from a distance, or engaging in close combat, you can customize your character to suit how you like to tackle enemies and bosses. The bosses in this game are impressive challenges, offering the tough-but-fair experience that *Soulslike fans expect.
Among Soulslikes, Lords Of The Fallen Has A Unique Approach To Its Gameplay

In Lords of the Fallen, the Umbral system is surprisingly deep, and the sequel promises to take it even further. In the original game, your Umbral Lamp wasn’t just for finding your way around – it was crucial for fighting enemies and solving puzzles. For instance, you might encounter a broken bridge with dangerous gaps. By shifting into the Umbral realm, those gaps disappear, allowing you to cross, but the bridge then becomes swarming with enemies that only exist in that shadowy world.
Using the Umbral Lamp lets you “Soulflay” enemies, which drains their energy to restore your own health. This changes how you recover – instead of needing to rest at checkpoints, you can heal during combat. This encourages frequent interaction with enemies and focuses on fast-paced action. Plus, as you become more powerful, your Umbral Lamp grows too, unlocking new abilities that constantly evolve your gameplay.
The Duskblood’s Exclusivity May Draw Fans To Lords Of The Fallen 2 Instead

Unlike The Duskbloods, Lords of the Fallen 2 is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store. Currently, Lords of the Fallen 2 has a clearer release plan – aiming for 2026 – than The Duskbloods. While fans eager for challenging, Soulslike gameplay might be excited about The Duskbloods*, some players may not have the opportunity to play it, even after it’s released.
The partnership between FromSoftware and Nintendo means the game The Duskbloods will only be available on the new Switch 2 console, which could limit how many people play it. The Switch 2 is expected to be difficult to find and costs more than playing games on a PC through platforms like Epic Games. While Lords of the Fallen 2 will likely be a challenging game on any system, it should be more accessible to players than The Duskbloods, as players won’t need to buy a new console just to experience it.
Despite being large and challenging games, both titles will likely find players eventually. Even without the reputation of FromSoftware, Lords of the Fallen 2 should succeed thanks to its enjoyable gameplay and RPG elements, similar to how Lies of P gained popularity with its unique take on the Soulslike genre.
