The Elder Scrolls 6 Fans Pleasantly Surprised By The Game Awards Leak

Those excited for The Elder Scrolls 6 might be disappointed to learn a new trailer isn’t coming anytime soon, but fans are handling the news with surprising positivity. Bethesda announced the next installment in the popular fantasy RPG series back in 2018, seven years ago.

Bethesda has launched several large games since the first announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6, including Fallout 76, Starfield, and updated versions of Skyrim. However, we still haven’t seen any news about the next Elder Scrolls game. While there was recent speculation about an upcoming update, that turned out to be false, leaving fans disappointed.

The Game Awards Mystery Statue Isn’t For The Elder Scrolls 6

Fans Are Convinced It’s For Divinity

Fans of The Elder Scrolls were excited last week when a strange, demonic statue showed up in the Mojave Desert. Geoff Keighley, who hosts The Game Awards, announced the statue, and people immediately began speculating about what it could mean. Many guessed it hinted at upcoming game announcements, like a sequel to God of War, new content for Diablo 4, or even Bloodborne 2.

Because the statue looked similar to a portal from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, some fans believe it might be a hint about the next game in the series, The Elder Scrolls 6.

Recently, people have started to speculate – including in discussions online – that the statue might be a hint for a new game in the Divinity series. Divinity is a world created by Larian Studios, and it’s been the setting for several RPGs, both action-focused and turn-based, ultimately leading to the development of their award-winning game, Baldur’s Gate 3.

The recently revealed logos for the franchise closely resemble a strange sculpture – particularly the eye-shaped symbol at the center of both. This makes a connection seem likely. While Larian’s publishing director, Michael Douse, stated on X (formerly Twitter) that there are no current plans for Divinity: Original Sin 3, this doesn’t necessarily mean the Divinity universe is being left behind. Douse clarified he’s referring specifically to the Original Sin games – the turn-based RPGs – and isn’t dismissing the possibility of a new Divinity game that isn’t a direct sequel. It could be a game similar in style to the earlier Divinity titles like Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, or Divinity 2, or even a fresh start for the series.

It Might Not Be The Reveal Fans Wanted, But They’re Still Hyped

“I’m Happy With This”

People are still debating the meaning of the statue, but it likely has nothing to do with the next Elder Scrolls game. Despite being disappointed that it wasn’t a TES 6 reveal, fans seem to be handling the news surprisingly well. As one commenter, sandohhh, put it, “I’m actually happy with this – it could have been much worse.”

Many fans, even if they couldn’t get The Elder Scrolls 6, thought a new Divinity game could be a great alternative. A user named DoNotLookUp3 added that a game from Larian Studios that felt even a little bit like The Elder Scrolls would be amazing. They explained that we need more role-playing games that offer immersive experiences, similar to those created by Bethesda and Warhorse, the developers of Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Some fans confessed their excitement for The Elder Scrolls might be fading. User Ulysses345 said they were actually more enthusiastic about this new game than a potential TES trailer. They pointed out that Baldur’s Gate 3‘s success strongly suggests Divinity: Original Sin 3 will be excellent, while acknowledging a common belief that The Elder Scrolls 6 might be underwhelming. This isn’t surprising, considering TES fans have been repeatedly disappointed during the seven years of silence surrounding the next installment. Many have likely found enjoyment in other RPGs, as it’s healthier to get excited about a game that’s actually coming out rather than endlessly waiting for one that hasn’t been discussed in years. Despite this, fans still allow themselves to hope, even knowing they’ll likely be let down. As one Elder Scrolls 6 fan, blessthecam, jokingly put it, “It was a pleasure coping with you all. Till next year!”
