Marvel Studios isn’t having as much success as it used to. Many of its recent TV shows and movies haven’t been critically well-received. However, Marvel films still make a lot of money. Thunderbolts earned over $300 million, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to bring in $520 million. While these numbers aren’t as high as blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the rise of streaming means fans are often content to wait and watch at home.
Starting today, November 5th, 2025, you can watch First Steps on Disney+. This will introduce the film to a lot of new viewers who will be eager to find all its hidden details. With so many secrets packed in, it’s easy to overlook a few! Here are seven subtle Marvel Easter eggs and references you might have missed while watching First Steps.
7) Giganto

Most superhero films start with the story of how a hero gets their powers, but First Steps is different. This team of heroes has already been active for a couple of years, and the movie shows us some of their past adventures, like fights with villains such as Red Ghost and Mole Man. One memorable battle involves a huge green monster – in the original comics, he was called Giganto and first appeared on the cover of The Fantastic Four #1 back in 1961.
6) Space Dragon

Just when Earth seemed safe, the Silver Surfer delivers shocking news: his master, Galactus, is on his way to consume the planet. The Fantastic Four immediately try to reason with the powerful Galactus, but they’re unsure what they’ll encounter – Ben Grimm jokingly suggests a “space dragon.” While Galactus isn’t a dragon, the mention foreshadows the arrival of Fin Fang Foom, a villain from Iron Man’s stories who could appear in a future Shang-Chi movie.
5) Galactus’ Origin

The Fantastic Four’s encounter with Galactus begins badly when he proposes a deal: he’ll save Earth if they give him Reed and Sue Richards’ son. It’s easy to miss, but Galactus reveals he was once as small and insignificant as the people he’s talking to. This fits with the history of the character in Marvel Comics – Galactus was originally named Galan and was the sole survivor of a destroyed galaxy.
4) WHiH

In the story, the media is important, regularly covering the Fantastic Four and how public opinion shifts, even when they encounter Galactus. A key news source is WHiH, which has also appeared in Iron Man 2 and other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. WHiH’s coverage extends to the formation of the New Avengers, as seen at the end of Thunderbolts.
3) Zenn-La

In First Steps, the Silver Surfer essentially does all the work for Galactus, especially since Galactus has trouble moving around. Johnny Storm figures this out and learns the Surfer’s history: she agreed to serve Galactus to protect her home planet. We briefly see a flashback of that planet, which is clearly Zenn-La – the same world Norrin Radd is from in the Marvel comics.
2) The Original Fantastic Four

You won’t see any actors from previous Fantastic Four movies in First Steps. It’s possible Marvel didn’t want to confuse audiences, or maybe scheduling conflicts prevented cameos. However, the cast of the never-released 1994 Fantastic Four film does make a brief appearance! All four actors play thankful bystanders in an opening montage.
1) Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

There’s a really cool, subtle nod to Marvel’s history in the First Steps comic! When the Silver Surfer lands on Earth, everyone rushes out to see him, but two guys are stuck inside working on comics. As a longtime fan, it totally hit me – they look exactly like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the incredible duo who created the Fantastic Four! It’s a sweet little tribute to the creators themselves, and easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it.
