The Fantastic Four: Initial Strides
This action-packed film is storming into cinemas as it’s been receiving rave reviews for introducing Marvel’s original clan to the MCU. With the film brimming with unexpected twists for Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben, the most intriguing developments could very well unfold in its two scenes after the credits. Despite their world hanging in the balance amidst their battle against Galactus and Silver Surfer, Marvel’s comic book family returning to the big screen have more challenges on their plate. Fortunately, we managed to watch this latest Marvel production and are ready to decode the post-credits scenes and their implications.
Caution: If you wish to steer clear of spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, be aware that our discussion will delve into significant plot points ahead. In the opening scene after the credits roll, it’s revealed that four years have passed since the team vanquished Galactus and the Silver Surfer by hurling them far from Earth. Now, Franklin has grown into a toddler, and Sue is keeping him entertained with stories. To find a fresh book for Frank, Herbie suggests one of his favorites – “Charles Darwin’s Origin of The Species.
Dr. Doom Arrives
When Sue Storm reunites with her son, she finds him not on his own. A man in a green cloak, with a mask clutched in his left hand, is interacting with Franklin as the scene concludes. The movie’s viewers can’t catch a glimpse of Doom’s face, stirring curiosity among Marvel enthusiasts about what Robert Downey Jr.’s actual face might look like beneath the mask. However, the mask and cloak are strikingly similar to Victor’s comic book counterpart. The nation of Latveria is mentioned frequently, even at the United Nations, but Doom himself remains unnamed, leaving several queries unanswered.
In simple terms, if you’re a fan of comic books, you might have an idea about Dr. Doom’s plans. In the storyline “Secret Wars” by Jonathan Hickman, Victor Von Doom obtains god-like powers and manipulates reality to merge all parts of the multiverse into one massive world called Battleworld. Since the characters Beyonders and the Builders haven’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, a possible way to introduce Dr. Doom’s actions could be through Franklin Richards, who possesses powers to alter reality. As time has passed, Franklin is likely more aware of his abilities than he was when he was a baby, making it easier for Doom to exploit the offspring of Reed and Sue.
A Jokey Second Post-Credits Scene
The ending sequence after the credits doesn’t link to “Avengers: Doomsday” or offer a closer look at Victor Von Doom, but it does delve deeper into a comical aspect of the Fantastic Four universe. The last moments depict an in-universe animated series where Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and Thing engage in battles with well-known comic villains. During their fight against the “Super Apes,” viewers get a glimpse of what John Malkovich’s Red Ghost might have looked like if he had been included. This scene also features the Fantastic Four facing off against adversaries not previously mentioned or shown during the movie, such as the fearsome Dragon Man.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters on July 25, 2025.
