I’m really excited about how popular The Fantastic Four: First Steps has become on streaming! It’s been a big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much busier than last year. Instead of just one movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, we got three in 2025: Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts and, of course, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. They all seemed to hint at what’s coming in Avengers: Doomsday, but The Fantastic Four: First Steps felt like the most crucial piece of the puzzle.
With $521.9 million earned worldwide, The Fantastic Four: First Steps was Marvel’s biggest hit of the year and the highest-grossing live-action Fantastic Four film to date. The movie also laid the groundwork for future Avengers films by introducing Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. It became available to stream on Disney+ on November 5, just over three months after its release.
New data from FlixPatrol shows that The Fantastic Four: First Steps became a huge success on Disney+ in just one day. It quickly rose to the top of the platform’s charts, finishing its first day as the most-watched movie on Disney+ worldwide. Other popular movies currently streaming on Disney+ include The Book of Life, Zootopia, and Ratatouille.
Let’s talk Disney+ charts. I was surprised to see a preview of Predator: Badlands cracking the top 5 – that one hits streaming November 7th. And while The Fantastic Four: First Steps didn’t exactly set the box office on fire, it seems Marvel Studios managed to turn a profit despite a reported $200 million budget. Not a blockbuster, but a win nonetheless.
The recent Fantastic Four movie has been well-received by both movie critics and fans, and this positive response seems to be translating into strong viewership on streaming platforms. Currently, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” holds an 86% approval rating from critics and a remarkable 91% audience score.
Before arriving on Disney+, the Fantastic Four’s introductory film, First Steps, was released for rental and purchase online on September 23rd. Then, on October 14th, it became available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Although Disney+ doesn’t have any more Marvel releases planned for 2025, a few other Marvel projects are still expected.
Disney+ will release four Marvel titles in 2025. First, new episodes of Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends will be available on November 12th. Then, on November 14th, both the LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails special and Sony’s Madame Web will debut. Lastly, season 4 of Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends will arrive on November 26th.
The Fantastic Four is scheduled to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026. Although none of the team members are currently confirmed for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day film, they—along with Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and Franklin Richards—will all be featured in Avengers: Doomsday. The positive reception to The Fantastic Four: First Steps on streaming platforms is expected to generate excitement for the Avengers movie.
