Firefly enthusiasts might not have a lot to cheer about currently, but the first Funko release in eleven years is certainly worth noting. You’re probably familiar with the tale. The brief-lived series debuted in 2002 and was unfortunately cancelled for reasons that would be hard to fathom today. At this stage, it seems unlikely that a revival will happen, but Funko has an update on its way, which brings back key characters such as Hoban Washburne, Inara Serra, Shepherd Book, Kaylee Frye, Malcolm Reynolds, River Tam, and Zoe Washburne in refreshed designs. Pre-orders can be placed starting today at Entertainment Earth and on Amazon. For a comprehensive rundown and more details, continue reading below.

More updates regarding Firefly! It seems that if Firefly had continued beyond its first season, James Marsters, who played the popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer character Spike, was intended to join the show. However, when Marsters joined the Angel cast instead, it appears plans were in place to incorporate him into the sci-fi series instead.

Marsters stated that the intention was for Spike to be included in Firefly, a series created by Joss, focusing on space exploration. Therefore, he escorted him to meet the crew of Serenity, which is another name for Firefly. He found it peculiar that they didn’t use the same title, he remarked. As he surveyed the space-themed set, he thought it was impressive. Marsters introduced himself to the cast members and was greeted warmly by everyone.
In simpler terms, Marsters mentioned that it was unclear to him why he was being introduced to certain individuals, but it seemed as though their plan involved going to a bar, where a vampire character (Spike) would be sitting and repeating “Nothing ever changes. It never changes.” This character, since Spike is immortal, would have been part of the future cast, but unfortunately, the show got cancelled.
Unfortunately, we’ll never get to see how those unwritten Firefly stories would unfold, much like any other tale that the creators were planning. We can only imagine. However, the wait for new Firefly Funko Pops is over!
