Landon Barker went from the bathroom to the stage with The Fray.
The band—Joe King, Dave Welsh, and Ben Wysocki—were delighted when the 22-year-old singer started making a habit of performing their 2005 song, “Look After You,” by lip-syncing to it in the bathroom. They especially appreciated his support last year as they celebrated the 20th anniversary of their hit song, How to Save a Life, while touring.
It started with Landon singing on the track, which then led to a collaboration,” Joe explained to TopMob News. “He ended up joining us on tour, which wasn’t something we’d planned—and those are always the best moments. It all happened very naturally.”
“Look After You” unexpectedly gained popularity when Landon and TikTok creator Steven Schenberg started playfully challenging each other with lip sync videos of the song. Joe Elliott saw the videos thanks to friends and decided to join in the fun.
We hadn’t been using TikTok much, he said. Then friends started telling him about Landon Barker using his song in videos. Right as TikTok was facing a potential shutdown, he quickly filmed a video in his bathroom thinking it wouldn’t matter if the platform disappeared. But the video unexpectedly took off, and it actually brought the three of them even closer together creatively.
He continued, saying you can’t plan for those kinds of moments. He believes the best things in life are often unexpected, and TikTok definitely came as a surprise to them.

It’s surprising to see a new generation discovering The Fray’s How to Save a Life album – it’s now 5x Platinum! The song’s emotional impact continues thanks to its memorable use in a particularly moving scene on Grey’s Anatomy.
“It’s amazing to look back,” Joe reflected. “Our first two albums really came from a time when we were grappling with big life questions – a lot of ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ – and honestly, we still don’t have all the answers.”
He continued, saying that these questions still matter to young people today, and they’re still grappling with the same issues.
It’s surprising to see a new generation of fans discovering The Fray’s How to Save a Life album—which has now been certified 5x Platinum—twenty years after it came out. The album’s title track remains iconic, especially for its memorable use in a particularly emotional scene on Grey’s Anatomy.
“It’s amazing to look back,” Joe explained. “Our first two albums really came from a time when we were grappling with big life questions – things like ‘why’ and ‘how’ – and honestly, we still haven’t figured them out.”
He continued, saying those questions still matter to young people today. They’re facing the same issues and asking the same things as before.
He explained that it’s amazing to see how people connect with their music. When fans cover their songs and share their personal stories alongside them, it gives the songs a fresh, new feeling and deeper meaning. It’s incredibly touching to see those connections.
The band will share fresh stories through their new album, A Light That Waits, which comes out on March 13th. They’re excited to see what their longtime fans think of it.
It’s hard to predict what songs will resonate with fans, explained Joe, who took over as lead singer in 2022 when Isaac Slade took a step back. He’s particularly excited to see where these new songs will go and how people connect with them. Being able to continue making music is a dream come true for the band.
Wow, I’m so excited for Joe, Ben, and Dave! They’ve been a team for 20 years now, and it’s amazing to see them starting a brand new phase in their journey together. It’s clear they’re not taking their long history for granted, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!
“Twenty years ago, if someone had said we’d still be making music and touring the world, we wouldn’t have believed it,” Joe told TopMob News. “It’s a dream come true to keep doing what we love and sharing it with fans everywhere. It’s more than we ever hoped for.”
The Fray’s A Light That Waits is out March 13 and their Summer of Light tour kicks off May 11.
