The Future of The Boys Franchise Beyond Season 5 Revealed (& 1 Show Is Seemingly Canceled)

When *The Boys* first launched, it quickly became one of Prime Video’s most popular shows by cleverly subverting the superhero genre. It combined shocking violence with sharp commentary on corporate practices and our obsession with celebrities. Though *The Boys* will conclude after its fifth season, the show’s world is expanding with spin-offs to keep the story going. Currently, the college-based spin-off *Gen V* is airing its second season, and a prequel called *Vought Rising* is being developed. As the main storyline between Billy Butcher and Homelander nears its end, the future of the franchise now depends on how well these new shows perform – their success is crucial for the continuation of this universe.

According to series creator Eric Kripke, the world of *The Boys* after Season 5 has a lot of potential for future stories. He told *The Wrap* that it will be a much more unpredictable and chaotic environment, and he’s excited about the possibility of bringing the characters from *Gen V* into that world.

The shocking events at the end of *The Boys’* fourth season are immediately affecting the current season of *Gen V*. With Homelander now in control of the country after killing Vice President Neuman, he’s establishing himself as a dictatorial ruler. This new, dangerous reality is now the everyday life for students at Godolkin University.

According to showrunner Eric Kripke, the future of both *Gen V* and *Vought Rising* depends on how many people watch the current seasons. They already have ideas for Season 3 of *Gen V* and Season 2 of *Vought Rising*, but need strong viewership of Seasons 2 and 1, respectively, to convince Amazon to move forward. Kripke emphasized that viewers should watch now, not later, as the studio is currently evaluating the numbers to determine if renewals are worthwhile. While Amazon has been supportive, the shows ultimately need to perform well to justify continued production.

The Boys Universe Keeps Expanding (Even Though One Show Has Been Canceled)

Prime Video is expanding the world of *The Boys* by creating shows in different countries and trying out new formats. The next step is *The Boys: Mexico*, a Spanish-language live-action series written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (*Blue Beetle*) and executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal. This follows their earlier experiment, *The Boys Presents: Diabolical*, a 2022 animated anthology series with eight separate shorts. That series featured a diverse group of creators – including comic author Garth Ennis, Seth Rogen, and Awkwafina – and each episode had its own unique animation style. Showrunner Eric Kripke has provided updates on both *The Boys: Mexico* and *Diabolical*, confirming their status.

Kripke shared updates on two projects: a live-action show called *Mexico* and the animated series *Diabolical*. *Mexico* is currently in the early stages of development, with the first script being written. Kripke praised the writing and expressed hope that it will move forward. Unfortunately, a second season of *Diabolical* is unlikely. While the creators loved the show and its showrunner, Simon Racioppa, was eager to continue, viewership numbers didn’t support a renewal.

The season finale for Gen V Season 2 will premiere on October 22nd.
