The sci-fi horror film The Gorge premiered on Apple TV on February 14, 2025. It follows two snipers assigned to protect a deep gorge, unaware of the dangers within. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson, known for Black Phone, and written by Zach Dean, who also penned Fast X and The Tomorrow War.
When The Gorge launched on Apple TV+, it became the platform’s most successful premiere at the time. Following its release, Matt Dentler, who leads Apple Original Films, shared with Deadline how pleased they were with the film’s strong performance. He stated that it was exciting to see Scott’s unique and creative world in The Gorge connect with audiences worldwide.
Where Did the Director Find His Inspiration for The Gorge?
Director Scott Derrickson has cited horror games like Silent Hill and Until Dawn as inspirations for his film, The Gorge. He also revealed a unique filming technique used for the movie’s realistic scenes near the gorge: instead of creating a computer-generated environment, the surroundings were built using real photographs. Currently, The Gorge has a 62% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, based on around 150 reviews, and a 74% audience score from over 2,500 viewers.
Anya Taylor-Joy will be returning as Princess Peach in the highly anticipated The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
